Well, less than one week until the 5th World Cup kicks off down in the land of Oz so it's about time we had some predictions; who's gonna be lifting "Bill Ellis" come November 22nd? My money is on New Zealand defeating England in the final with a third place play off between Ireland and Australia so my prediction:
1st. New Zealand 2nd. England 3rd. Australia 4th. Ireland
Much as I'd like to see our boys whup the home team's ass in the play off, the fact that we've only beaten them twice in the past 50-something years doesn't inspire much confidence. Although we are currently ranked third in the world ahead of the Wallabies and it is less than 12 months since we last defeated them, so I wouldn't be incredibly surprised to see our boys finish in the top three.

I'm picking a very close England/NZ Final with NZ by a couple in the end. |

And entirely possible...
Wales will more than likely finish second in group D behind New Zealand, assuming they can defeat Tonga, which would put them in the quarter finals against the winners of group C, England. If they somehow beat England and all my other predictions work out, that would put them in a semi-final match against Ireland. Put one over on us and they're in the final against New Zealand. OK, it's a bit of a stretch but stranger things have happened!

Rugyby, Rugby , rugby , blah , blah, blah ... Sydney is football CRAZY at the moment - to save my sanity there are two GREAT races at Bathurst. The legendary 1000k race this weekend, and the MIGHTY TWENTY HOUR that coincides with the RWC Final.
But sorry, no football for me ... |

Hmmm, might have to revise my predictions to allow for an Irish/Welsh final! Don't know if I'm going to get to watch it all* but luckily the boss is also a rugby head so hopefully we'll have a TV in the office come Friday.** I work in a rugby club as well, so that's going to be a bit of fun; 6am start this Staurday. ***
What sort of races you talking about, laser? Athletics or motor racing or ...?
*Actually I know I'm not going to get to see it all, RTÉ are only showing half the games. And I was looking forward to Romania/Namibia ... really.
**If not, I'll be raising holy hell, we had one in for that bloody soccer nonsense last year!
***OK, done early starts before in other jobs but dealing with rugby club members at that hour of the morn'?

Don't forget the final F1 and Indy cars races coming up this weekend too Laser :) looking forward to relaxing in an armchair this weekend and watching some good motoracing personally.
Wales, now wouldn't it be great even if they just made it to the Semi's. |

Will be watching the F1 this weekend too.
laser, I'm pretty sure there are 24hr foot races, I did a few 24hr swims when I was a kid, so I'm sure people must walk for that length of time. |

Sorry, Laser, had sigs turned off for some oddball reason (should've known anyway though )! Done a couple of 24hr foot races for charity in my time so, yeah they exist.
Anyways, tried revising my predictions to take into account the bonus points and it made my head hurt so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the tournament! ... and the F1. ... and the Dublin Marathon. ... ARGH! "Sports" overload!

Yup, been splashing about for the better part of two decades now. My legs have pretty much put paid to my competitive career which was going quite swimmingly (pun intended!) until things went pear-shaped. Still train at least once a week though.

True, I was just thinking from a work point of view. Although factor in the compromised rules series (which I forgot about ) and you get pretty close to critical mass!
