I have a Canon Digital Ixus v2, I'm very satisfied with the quality of the images and so on.. It's not that good at moving targets though, but that's the only downside I noticed.. The v3 has more zoom and a few more pixels too.. |

Sorry, my suggestions only have more than 3 Megapixels.
I have recently buyed a Sony DSC-P10. It`s a allround talent. Good photo quality and up to 90 minutes of video (with the right memory stick). I like it.
If you don`t need the video feature, I would suggest a Casio QV5700 (5,36 Megapixels). It makes the best pictures in the 5 Megapixel class I know of and is available in combination with a 1GB Microdrive but it has poor video function (only one or half a minute in a row I think) |

I never tested the video mode that much, but it's been enough for me.. But how much you can film depends on the memorycard afaik.. I have a MiniDV-cam for the filming =) |

I have the Canon Ixus v3, the movie storage depends on the memory card, i've managed a 5 minute movie on a 128mb card, haven't tried longer |

Memory Sticks aren't that expensive, look around and theres always places online doing rebates and other offers I've seen a 256Mb Stick for as low as $35 US after mail in rebates. Don't buy "sony" sticks though, they just cost more, Lexar or Sandisk's are always cheaper.
I've owned hmm lemme count, 3 Sonys, 2 Nikons, 1 Cannon and a Kodak and I keep going back to the Sonys, anything with a Zeiss lens is usually pretty good.
Current camera of choice is a DSC-F717 5MP, but I'll probably be grabbing the new F828 when it's out shortly too which is an 8MP Camera and takes both CF and Memory Stick.
Check out www.dpreview.com for some good reviews and comparison charts of various cameras. |

OK, thanks for the hint, I'm not really into the memory/accessoires yet... And yes it looks like only the Sony memory sticks are that expensive.

Both are way too pro for that what I need

Cheers for the link! Though it seems the battery that comes DSC-P8 is rather poor and doesn't last long. Oh well, I'll keep looking. |

I'm thinking about getting the Minolta Dimage Z1. I just need to actually get my hands on one to see if I can handle it (I hate the small cameras - can't manipulate them with the meathooks I have for hands) |

I don't see mention there about poor battery but might have missed it. The P8 comes with a quite good battery actually in the FC11 if you look at reviews of a couple of other Sonys using that battery such as the V1 here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscv1/page11.asp you'll see the battery life at around 160 minutes or 270 pictures, which for a 2.8Wh battery isn't too bad. |

The battery seems ok on my ixus v2 as long as you don't use the flash too much. I really like the compact and solid camera. I have dropped it several times and nothing happened. ;) |

definately a good idea to find a good store that will let you play with the cameras for a while to see which one "feels" best. |

I just bought this one yesterday. It was the first one the local camera shop got in (they had only gotten it in yesterday morning - most of the other stores in the area hadn't gotten them in yet). Sweet camera! |
