If you by cool scripts mean all those anoying pop-ups with appz etc, I don't think any good about your "hard work" |

I like the fact that you offer an incentive to register... pop-ups will go away. However, you'll have a hard time getting nominated for a Snitz award with the warez links on there. |

Holy smokes! Got enough moderators? Luckly I have a pop up blocker, one that works good. I terribly hate pop up ads. |

if i havent done any work then where does the online store script , stock exchange , and topsites come from.. Well i know none of u guys have them.. heheh
Pee.Wee Inc Yes, I worked with serverhacker to build it.. Check out his site for my scripts.
Popup ads are a must when you have to pay for hosting.. expecially when you receive as many hits as xbox-hq.com.
I would have thought atleast someone would have commented on the additional scripts.. Oh well seems you are a hard bunch.

I think ServerHacker has done a great job on his portal but its getting kind of old seeing it everywhere now. Change a couple of colors and voila! It is quite possibly making people lazy to develop anything new IMHO. |

dayve, I would have to agree with you. I use a forum modded by Huw but have went to extreme measures to make it original and unique. I have some very nice plans for next year.
forahobby, how many hits do you get a day? |

The only reason you get alot of hits is because 1 visit creates a dozen hits for all those windows popping up... |

The nature of the SH "eye candy" causes this, the typical user is looking for a finished product to substitute for having to purchase a forum or portal. Snitz tends to attract more developers and web designers that are only using this as a core but not an end product.
Although we encourage members to be creative, most have not had enough time or experience to develop a new product or look. Many of us know this is an Open Source product for learning and development, but like any business you need to understand what type of customer your product attracts, which in this case is usually an inexperienced end user looking for a "shareware" or "freeware" type of product. The SH portals do not normally attract the developer who downloads Linux because he is interested in exploring the insides of his machine and create original applications as part of his experience and self development as a programmer. Rather the SH member is usually fairly new at this, wants to learn a little but probably is not doing this to change careers. They may be interested in technolgy and intellectual stimulation that this provides, but don't intend on making a living from prgramming or web design.
This does not make them any less important as members and part of the open source learning community, its just the SH portal was really always intended as a finished product by its nature...no fuss no muss... |
