I'm hoping some of you can give me some good ideas for what to name a new forum I need to create to put all the posts related to either: 1. users trying to sell their own things to other members (usually books) or 2. other webmasters plugging their own sites.
I'm aware of all the implications of allowing other webmasters to plug their own sites on my forum, but truth be told, I know the market very well, and I'm not worried about losing visitors as a result. Actually, I want my forum to be very open to any reasonable post, much as a newsgroup would be. And I might actually change this policy in the future, but for now, I'm allowing plugs.
So I'm just wondering what some of you other veterans, who have such forums, have called them. I'm asking for suggestions mostly because I don't want to change the name later, because it might confuse people. Here are some of the names I've thought of:
Marketplace Buy & Sell Spam Here! Shameless Plugs Advertise
The thing is, I need to include both website plugs and "classified ads."
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, folks! |

Marketplace sounds good. Then just define your guidelines for posting in there.
I created a "Share-A-Link" forum and seperately created a "Classifieds" forum with "Want to Buy" and "Want to Sell" under that. |

TestMagic,
How about Bazaar, swapmeet, fleamarket, or garage sale? I actually like Marketplace, but Classifieds sounds good too.
Your site draws a lot of non-English speakers, doesn't it? Are there any easily recognized international words that might be interesting? Marketplace in Japanese is "ichiba", but that's probably not going to register with a lot of people .
Maybe D3mon can give you cockney phrase for marketplace

Well, I decided to go with "Marketplace." Thanks for the input, guys. taropatch, I liked your ideas, so I created a couple forums with "want to sell," "want to buy," and "shameless plugs." Thanks!

Oddly enough there doesn't seem to be one, which is even more strange when you consider that the slang 'language' itself was born in the markets of London. |

Otherwise they'd use it on Easties all the time... |

I have a forum on my site called 'Promotions' which is the only forum where members are allowed to promote events, websites, basically anything music related. I've also got one called 'Classifieds' which is used by members to buy or sell items.
Works quite well and definitely reduces the amount of spam I receive on the site. If there are any promotions posted in the wrong place, my moderators just 'dump' them in the promotions forum... simple! |

How about the barrows?
That is all I know for an english phrase for a market, I read some slang (ryhming slang) for these as the barrows and halls, Market Stalls, presumably due to the old markets being in arcades (large halls), and the produce sold from wheel barrows.
But i only ever heard the rhyme expression the one time. |
