Ok, I did do a search (But I was unsure of what terms to use) for this.
I have an ASP based chatroom, but I want to force my members to use there forum username. But, I'm not connected to my snitz database in the chat. So:
I can connect to the database and use strDBNTUserName.
Or
I can use cookies.
Either way, I don't know exactly how to do it. Can anyone help?
someone said to look at the docookie in inc_func_common.asp but I don't understand how it helps.
Thanks |

If your chat software accepts login paramters it's pretty easy to do with a form. We use ParaChat runnung on a different computer from the one hosting our forums (we have our own ParaChat server) and we link directly from the forums to the ChatRoom, using a script that accounts for user names that contain blanks (which ParaChat does not like), and it works fine. Save the forum members from having to log in again...they just open up the chat room with one click. |

I do the same thing with ConquerChat. I have a link on the forum that takes the user to the chat program and logs them in using the username. It will depend on what chat program you are using to figure out if and how it can be done. |

check out the chat room at http://www.gowilmington.com if you like it, I'll send you the code (it uses the forum username for the chatroom).

I just added a few lines of code to the inc_header.asp and created a chat link with a display of how many are chatting, Ex. chat(2). You click on the link and you automatically go to the chatroom logged on with your username. You can try it out by logging on as test user, Password: test.
I'll send you the code if you want it. |

Can you send it to me, and I can look at both chat codes, and see which I like better please?
