Methodology: A global usage share of xx percent for browser Y means that xx percent of the visitors of Internet users arrived at sites that are using one of OneStat.com’s services by using browser Y. All numbers mentioned in the research are averages of last month and all measurements are normalised to the GMT timezone. The last research regarding global usage shares of browsers was published on September 30 2002. Research is based on a sample of 2 million visitors divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day.

I think the Apple market share is something like 3% too. Maybe that's an MS competitor toleration threshold.

I also would agree with those stats. I love IE, no need to switch. For me, it is very stable and works excellent. |

I believe the reason IE is better than the others, is because most sites are optimized for IE. |

It's not suprising when you think that IE is installed on most all new computers.
Nice to see Mozilla is holding on though :)
I use both IE and Mozilla, but IE is just not as funky as Mozilla in my opinion. |

IE can do tricks that other browsers either can't do, or can't do as well/easy as IE does them. If I had to choose between any non-IE browser, I'd go for Opera 7 though. An added benefit of using Opera 7 for me is that for some reason I have the free version and it doesn't show any banners |

Yep. I used it as my single browser until about 2 years ago. By then the number of sites that wouldn't show properly was just too much, and had to start using IE. |

Why ?
2 Reasons:
1) Many stats generators mistake spider UA signatures for NN3/4
2) Apparently at one point many spiders displayed the UA signature of the NN3 (And perhaps 4) client browser. And many of these may still be in use.
I was just reading a spider writing tutorial the other day, and the demo code used the signature of IE (so its really not IE requesting the page, it just tells the server it is) |

I believe you'll find the place that actually publishes these Browser usage statistics factor in most of the known issues with browser identification, they're in the business of Traffic/Hit counting so I'd hope at least that they were fairly accurate. |

If a spider uses the same UA signature as a browser, and uses the same handshake, even the best software cannot tell them apart.
The software that tracks Ls3k.com is LiveStats by Media House, a 'well respeced' business who do that kinda stuff. Unfortuantly, the version Readyhosting has installed is 5.02, which came out before IE 6. So, logically, you would expect no IE 6 browsers in my stats and a whole lot of unknown browsers. But thats not what I get at all. Instead, 70% of my hits are recorded as Netscape 4, so obviously LiveStats cant tell the IE 6 and NN4 signatures apart. What else can it not tell apart? |

If the UA is the same then yes they'll get recorded the same, hence the "% of error" factor some report to cater for this, where they get or how they calculate that % of error from who knows. |
