As somebody who is out of work and trying to make some money off the internet I would appreciate some tips!
I have joined a few affiliate schemes including Amazon and Commission Jnction but none of my users seem to click on the banners or links!
Can anybody recommend any good UK based schemes that guarantee payment based on page impressions or any other good schemes?
All suggestions most welcome. Also what monthly traffic do people get in terms of unique IPs and total sessions?
Thanks Richard |

Not much, if any at all. To be honest, it actually costs me.
I have a few Commission Junction banners up and I did use a few text links a while back but not with too much success.
You will be hard pushed to find any advertising companies that will allow you to display ads based on CPC or CPM. The average forum-goer just will not click on them, the CTR is just way too pitiful.
I mean just consider how many pages you look at in the average forum (logging in, active topics, reading, replying, logging out etc.) than you do in any other part of a website. You can understand their point of view.
As to affiliates, it would rather depend on your market but to be honest, don't expect much income from any banners or text links you put up in a forum unless they are extremely targetted. Oh, and NEVER use pop-ups/pop-unders. Your forum users will possibly run a mile! |

This has made me think. I wonder if there are any MODs that allow some kind of targetted text linking? For instance, if somebody wrote a post such as "Then I listened to a Nirvana CD", the MOD would pick up the word "Nirvana" and turn it into a hyperlink, connecting up to say the Amazon page for Nirvana. That would be useful! |

I have an account with advertising.com, and they feed in whatever banners they want. They say they choose depending on what my users click on. I've told them that I don't want any popups or those horrible things that plant themselves in the middle of the screen, but sometimes, they still appear. Maybe it's not Mark who's doing it. |

I said I don't use pops on the forums. The only reason the forum is popping up on the main site is because i'm currently using it as my default pop whilst I look for a good secondary ad agency to replace it. I don't and would never use any form of pop-up on my forums. |
