I also have the problem with Netscape not doing anything when trying to pick a member from the list to send PM to ... no matter which version of this mod I install. Works in IE but nothing in Netscape so PM is worthless so far. Has to be the javascript but I know not much in that area :-(

Might be better to switch to regular drop down list of members and submit like regular form? Please help really need to get all these cool mods up and running.

I'm having that very same problem with Netscape. What happens when I click on a name, it actually takes me to the profile for that person.

When you click on the person's name it is supposed to take you to their profile. Clicking the icon will add the user's name to the TO field in the Private Messages form.

Just installed and tested ... still does not work with netscape ... memberlist icons all on one line and nothing happens when clicked.

The is a re-re-release of the Private Messages Mod. It is for v3.1 SR4 and newer of Snitz Forums 2000. It was originally released by slemieux, I have just modified it so that it will work with v3.1 Final and newer and incorporated the bugfixes mentioned in previous threads.

To use this with versions prior to v3.1 SR4 you will need to edit some files

If you have already installed the Private Messages Mod and it's working, then there is no need to download this one. There is no new functionality, I have just incorporated all of the fixes that were posted in the previous thread. Except for the request by jlaw to have the New PM # be a different color so it will stand out more.

I fixed the CColor problem and did some other stuff with the colors on the pm_view.asp page so that it's more uniform with the forum. You probably won't notice it. But it should be fixed for Netscape viewers now. If not, please let me know by posting in this thread.

Please read the included pm_readme.txt file before installing this mod.

Just applied the fixes for icons on same line and the missing tr tags ... still same behavior in netscape.

Clicking on icon in netscape does nothing at all ... clicking on name does load profile.

in pop_pm_members.asp, do a search for: (around line #125)

onClick="opener.document.PostTopic.sendto.value+='<% =ChkString(rsMembers("M_NAME"),"display") %>'; window.close()"

delete the: ; window.close()

and see if it will work like that.

also do the same on line #217:

onClick="opener.document.PostTopic.sendto.value+='<% =ChkString(rs("M_NAME"),"display") %>'; window.close()"

Richard,

Did not make any difference at all. It almost acts like the onclick method for the image is not executing or the javascript can't locate the window it is supposed to update. Thanks for trying though. I have tested most of the forums listed in here that have private messaging installed and none of them worked in Netscape.

Just checked out your MOD and really like it but has anyone thought of limiting the # of messages each person can store? Maybe only allowing 10-20 inbound and 5-10 outbound. Could this be configured by the admin as a setting perhaps?

Just wondering. Although it's a great tool, I'd hate to see my database start growing as folks use it as an email site.

That raises another question...How do you keep the private messages from building and building? Is there an easy way for an admin to "purge" old messages from the system?

Eire.

Hello,

Can someone explain to me if I can do this, and the code that I will need to get it done? I'm an ASP newbie, so please go easy on the lingo :)

I have installed the PM Mod on my Default.asp page and its working properly. But I wanted to make a cosmetic change to enhance it's user-friendliness. What I wanted to do is to have the Icon on the Default.asp page reflect the enabled/disabled status of Private Messages. If PM is enabled, then I want it to show if you have a message or not. Such as:

Privatemess.asp

<td align="center" bgcolor="<% =strForumCellColor %>" valign="middle">
<% if strDBNTUserName = "" Then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pmdead.gif" height=15 width=11 border=0 hspace=0 alt="Disabled">
<% else
if rs("M_PMRECEIVE") = 0 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pmdead.gif" height=15 width=11 border=0 hspace=0 alt="You Disabled Your Account">
<% else
if pmcount = 0 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm.gif" height=15 width=21 border=0 hspace=0 alt="No New Private Messages">
<% end if
end if
if pmcount >= 1 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm_new.gif" height=15 width=21 border=0 hspace=0 alt="New Private Messages Waiting!">
<% end if %>
<% end if %>
</td>

But, this doesn't work. And I know my if/then statements are a little messed up. Some help cleaning this up would be appreciated. (Remember, I'm a Newbie!) I can muddle through code and find examples of "if/then/else if" if need be. But I definatly need some help replacing
if rs("M_PMRECEIVE") = 0 then %>
with something that actually checks to see if PM is enabled or not.

What I want is like:

if M_PMRECEIVE = off, then icon = PM disabled.
else {
if pmcount = 0, then icon = no messages.
else if pmcount >= 1, then icon = new messages.
}

Help anyone?

Thanks

Since there isn't any code in privatemess.asp to get the FORUM_MEMBERS.M_PMRECEIVE status from the database you'll need to add code like the following:

(I would suggest adding it right under pmcount = rsPM("pmcount"))

strSql = "SELECT " & strMemberTablePrefix & "MEMBERS.M_PMRECEIVE "
strSql = strSql & "FROM " & strMemberTablePrefix & "MEMBERS "
strSql = strSql & "WHERE " & strMemberTablePrefix & strDBNTSQLName & " = '" & strDBNTUserName & "'"

set rsPMS = my_Conn.Execute(strSql)

and then instead of:

if rs("M_PMRECEIVE") = 0 then %>

you would use:

if rsPMS("M_PMRECEIVE") = 0 then %>

I had to revise your code just a slight bit to get it to work. Thanks, it is doing the job now! But, since I don't know ASP, can you look over this to make sure it's correct and that there won't be any problems with having to close a database?

add just under pmcount = rsPM("pmcount")

strSql = "SELECT " & strMemberTablePrefix & "MEMBERS.M_PMRECEIVE "
strSql = strSql & "FROM " & strMemberTablePrefix & "MEMBERS "
strSql = strSql & "WHERE " & strDBNTSQLName & " = '" & strDBNTUserName & "'"

Set rsPMS = my_Conn.Execute(strSql)

Replace

<td align="center" bgcolor="<% =strForumCellColor %>" valign="middle">
<% if strDBNTUserName = "" Then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pmdead.gif">
<% else
if pmcount = 0 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm.gif">
<% end if
if pmcount >= 1 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm_new.gif">
<% end if %>
<% end if %>
</td>

With

<td align="center" bgcolor="<% =strForumCellColor %>" valign="middle">
<% if strDBNTUserName = "" Then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pmdead.gif" height=15 width=11 border=0 hspace=0 alt="Disabled">
<% else
if rsPMS("M_PMRECEIVE") = 0 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pmdead.gif" height=15 width=11 border=0 hspace=0 alt="You Disabled Your Account">
<% elseIf pmcount = 0 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm.gif" height=15 width=21 border=0 hspace=0 alt="No New Private Messages">
<% elseIf pmcount >= 1 then %>
<IMG SRC="icon_pm_new.gif" height=15 width=21 border=0 hspace=0 alt="New Private Messages Waiting!">
<% end if
end if %>
</td>

you might try converting to v3.1 Final first and then try to convert to v3.1 sr4.

Richard,
I just installed the MOD on my private IIS machine. The Inbox works just fine, but I can't see the icon in topics.asp.
Is there anything I need to modify to get the MOD to work the way I've seen it on other sites?

BTW, great work. I can't wait to have it running!
