I won't be able to help much, since I don't know the modded forum you're using, but I'd probably say that's because you haven't setup the database properly. Make sure you read all the instructions that must come with the forum and setup all the mods you need to setup. I'm almost certain that the code has no problems. I'd say you must have references in your SQL statements to DB fields that do not exist and that is causing the error messages.
Reread the installation instructions.

Faizan,

I have SHv3403v8 running on a Brinkster general account... except some files over 1.0mb size which I could not upload via their file manager/5x5 upload and for some MODs that I opted not to use, SH V8 forum is running fine.
Except for some difference in a way access permission is set with db for a general account and others at Brinkster, I would assume there is not really any major difference. So, I assume you may not have installed your SH forum properly...for some reason.

One thing I did was to set a db access connection setting adjusted to MS Access 2000 on Brinkster...changing the default setting defined. Make sure you have this correctly done...although I assume you have it setup as I see the forum itself.

There are other files that requires read/write acess and requires to set permissions and am not sure whether it works as setup as done with default settings of SH's if that's the way you are using. Because of this I haven't set all file uploading/File transfer features/capabilities required by MODS (like File Lister, Photo Album, etc. not enabled).

I think your something is wrong with the way directory and link is set for images as well... all images/icons showing up in a box with red x....and Hoovering is not happening the way it's supposed to be behaving.... Also I think what Ruirib mentioned above probably is correct.
I clicked links around and seeing errors generated - like obvious one is Forum and link to sitenews.asp is not working, link to cal_default.asp include in default.asp is not working (small calendar at the bottom), etc... obviously points to the problem of inproper directory and db settings..... which, I suspect, are causing the problem as Ruirib mentioned for SQL statements to DB fields references...

SH's instruction is pretty much straight forward...and if you follow it there should not be a minimal modification you need to make as it all pre-packaged. So, it may not be a bad idea to try a fresh re-install, as I kind of agree with Ruirib that there may not be any basic problems in codes themselves but perhaps the way the forum DB and directories are setup....You have to setup your forum directory structure as mentioned by SH... mirror copy of how it is packaged in site codes...including all subdirectory file structures and naming.... because that's the way all links/accesses are set...

/YOURACCOUNT/should have the following directories there
  • db
  • forum
  • uploads

further, /YOURACCOUNT/forum/ should have the following subdirectories there
  • avatars
  • data
  • dropmenu
  • images
  • includes
  • resources

where /images/should further have two subdirectories, speeach and tableborders

also /uploads/ has further subdirectories
  • Admin

which contains further subdirectory, nt.

each directory/subdirectory comes with files associated with them as well...

These are how SH's site code is structured and these need to be replicated on Brinkster. I suspect that somewhere you didn't do this correctly.

Also, depending on what type menu selected in your default.asp page (SH's comes with a default type menu, which you also use), you have to put a respective file (index, default, etc.) in the web page... for example, if you deploy the forum as is with default type menu, you have to choose a default type index or default (either asp or html) from Choose your menu type folder to place it on a web page... what this does is automatically redirect it to sitenews.asp page which is the portal page.

Check these again and I am kind of sure that you will find that somewhere you missed proper installation of site codes....

Hope it works out for you.

Also, if you haven't posted this at ServerHacker's, probably you should try to see whether you get good adivise there...
Goto ServerHacker or the link on the first post of MODS forum here.

FYI: My SHv3403v8 test forum (Brinkster General Account) is here:I am getting Server Application Error to get to this site myself: The server has reached the maximum recovery limit for the application during the processing of your request. ...so I'm removing this link, as I need to get to it also.

what shall i put in the new db (from my old) in order to keep these?
I'm sure that this is the problem! And i still can't see any images on the forum, i've uploaded everything now (apart from avatars, which i'll do later)

Plz tell me the exact copy-paste method of how can i keep these things!
Thanks a lot, u've been really kind!

Hi Faizan,
Glad to hear that you've been successful in updating it...although I still see your forum icons and nav icons not showing up...am wondering whether you got these all in /lynx626/forum/images directory or you have to set your image directory if you have all your images there in Admin Options to that directory...

As for db setup... am not a seasoned expert on that ...either Rui or someone at ServerHacker's can probably help better....I am assuming though if your existing db is earlier version of V3.x then you should be able to use a "standard" version upgrade/db upgrade approach with SH's as well since my understanding is that forum cores are remaining intact with V3403.... so your existing db should be "migrated" or "updated" to SH 3403V8 with no problems... but please do check with "experts"....

Cheers.

Doesn't the mod have a readme file? It should have, and surely there must be dbs files for implementing database changes. If you can't find neither the readme or the dbs files, maybe visit ServerHacker's forum and ask for help there.

As I said, try getting support at ServerHacker's forum. Looks like this code only includes instructions related to a clean install and I'm guessing that you are trying to upgrade an existing base forum DB. So only the mod's author may be able to tell you whether there is an upgrade path...

on the bottom ofthis page it says:

quote:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'
No value given for one or more required parameters.

/lynx626/forum/cal_functions.asp, line 61

And in that file, on line 61 it says:
quote:
rs.open StrSql, My_conn, adOpenStatic

Does it help u to fix ne problem? I think there's some problem with my connection string! I'm using this:

quote:
strConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("/lynx626/db/xxxxxxxxxxxx.mdb") '## MS Access 2000 on Brinkster

I think all of the above information might help u to solve the problem!

(Rui, i have also posted all of this on SH as well and they said that go to snitz!)

Faizan,
I don't know the mod. I will refrain from offering a comment on the way an eventual upgrade path from a base Snitz Db to ServerHacker's mod is (not) documented. If the mod author cannot help you with this I certainly cannot. You'll have to wait to see if some other Snitz members can help you with this.
What I can tell you is that I downloaded the code, had a look at it, found no info on upgrading a base Snitz DB and found no dbs files. You could do it with the database file included with the download, but it looks like it's going to be more difficult if you cannot use that one, which seems to be the case.

Faizan,
I cannot offer you any specific recommendations how to approach/fix the problems except saying that what Rui mentioned is very much correct. However, I see something strange in your forum setting, which tells me that you may not have done installation correctly.
(1) I still see some icon's are not correctly placed in necessary image directory - like login/logout buttons...
(perhaps a minor item)
(2) I see your hovering feature is not working - it basically blacken all forums rather than hovering over individual forums...and stay black... so this MOD component may not be properly installed either.
(3) New Events Calendar has basic setup problems - I also see the similar sql connection error (line 106 in cal.asp) showing up in Monthly View, and I don't see any calendar rendering correctly in any of Daily/Monthly/Yearly, etc. besides your mentioning of cal_default.asp in the default page with error for cal_functions.asp
(4) I also could not find your sitenews.asp ...which has inc_events.asp include file for showing up an event calendar in site portal. (I am not sure this will impact other Event Calendar in the forum but there seems to be some tweeking done by SH in deploying EC in moded enviornment, so maybe.)

I see your EC module is the same version which came with SH V8, which also tells me that if you have installed/setup SH db correctly and all these files placed in the proper locations, you should have it up running...so bit puzzled. But surfing through your forums, either initial setup created a corrupted db or files not placed in proper locations....

I also think, as Ruirib mentions, that DB comes with SH are already pre-set with all MOD related tables are added so it may not be straight foward to use your existing db with SH forum...

I did a "fresh" install as is and it was fine, so I am still wondering whether you may have done some additional modifications or changes in setting up either DB or uploading files.....

Sorry that I cannot offer you any intelligent advise, but want to comment on some items that I noiced on your forum....

Hope others can help you more. Good luck.

I see you have now SHv3403V8 up....still seeing some avatar and login button icons not displaying correctly.... but seems like it is up and running.

BTW, am not sure what would be the best approach to "import" your access DB into SH's.... assume that you may be able to do this if you have MS Access 2000 ~2002, opening a SH DB and import your db into it.... ???? But this is what I found as a possible resource for you ... from SH: Check this out and see whether this serves your purpose... although I would suggest that you will take an utmost care in doing whatever with your DB....

http://www.serverhacker.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1234

Good luck and hope everything works out good for you! Cheers....
