I am building an application to link to Amazon catalog. I have used XML over HTML (whatever it is called). I have seen lot of discussion about SOAP being better technique. Any insights?

I just started this yesterday. Will be adding the search feature soon. I plan to have a Administrative section which will allow include/exclude categories and many other options.

That I did long time back by storing everything in a database. |

Very nice, GB. Are the categories in your store straight out of Amazon?
How does the Amazon connection work? Do you get paid a percentage for sales by Amazon, like an associate program?

Looks very promising GB, I like how the 'top seller' is displayed in the left column after category selection is made.
I have made something similiar, but not got very far with it. Just storing the products in DB and automatically putting in the ASIN (Amazons associate program code).
Seahorse, Yes Amazon has an affiliate program, here is details.

It is fairly easy once you start working on it. |

I tried for a bit, things looked "weird" to me, and I put it on the shelf, so to speak.
One of my problems is I didn't know if I wanted to list out bestsellers, do a search for keywords to display things, or just keep my own set of ASINs in a small table in a db, and then call the info for those. It is nice to pick one item to display on the front of your site (or two) by ASIN and then have the info (like price) display.
Do you have suggestions for which method to use? And a good place you found for any code examples? I have never used any XML before, so I would definitely need to peek at things to get it going. |
