Okay, my forum is using an access database. My host is websamba.com. My forum is continually going down, about 10-15 hours at a time now. Is it the server? The message when it is down comes up as follows.

There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
Open the freehost01.websamba.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
HTTP Error 500-13 - Server too busy
Internet Information Services
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background:
The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity.

Could it be the database, or my host? My friend has a websamba hosted snitz forum, and when mine is down, his is still up. He is using an access database and everything. Why does my forum continually go down. Should i switch from access to mysql?

OK, I will switch servers and switch databases.

I do not have the snitz files and such downloaded on my computer, as i just got a new one. I plan on downloading them from my host using an FTP client. How can i keep all of my posts and stuff, then change databases and host, all without the files. Will downloading them onto my computer work?

Thank you all for your help...

What do you mean changing databases? You're planning to move from Access to SQL Server or MySQL? You'll always need to download your existing database and use a migration strategy to get the data into a SQL Server DB or MySQL DB.

Umm.... Can you explain that? I am going to switch servers from websamba to a host that support ASP.... and then i will switch databases from access to MySQL. (downloading mysql so its basically a personal database) and i dont have the config and stuff on my my computer, but i can just download it from my current host onto it. Correct?

You'll need to download your Access DB and then use a MySQL migration tool, like MySQLFront. Never used it (not even MySQL), but I guess it will create a dump file that you can then import to your MySQL Db to create the table structure and your existing table data.

What don't you like? Other Snitz users have done it without problems, or with a small thing here and there...

Anyway, just download your database and then upload it to your new site. All the info from your forum is in your database.

What stuff are you talking about, moving to MySQL or downloading the Access DB and then uploading again to your new host?

Is MySQL worth switching to, or should i keep access? If i keep access, i need a new host.... so what do you think?

If you don't have a too busy forum you can stay with Access. Websamba doesn't look like a very reliable server, maybe your problems come from there. MySQL is justifiable if you have more traffic than Access can handle. How many simultaneous visitors do you have, on average?

That should not be a problem (5-8 users) for Access. Maybe you should get a new host. If Access gives you problems later on you can consider upgrading to MySQL Or SQL Server.

That's variable and depends on what the users are doing. If they are mostly reading, Access will be able to handle many. if you have many writing to the DB at the same time, the number will be less. I've seen sites handle between 20-30 users ok. It also depends on the server where the DB is located.
