I would like to take some replies to an existing topic and move them into a new topic.

My visitors have a tendency to start a new discussion in the middle of a topic, and I'd like to pick a post and use everything below that post to create a new topic.

I know (at least, I think I know) that there's no automated way to do that, but can someone make a suggestion about what I need to do, even if it's at the data base level. I own and host both web site and data base so I can do whatever is needed.

Thanks.

It's a wasted day if you don't spend at least part of it flying upside down.

I was thinking about this myself. I would like to cut a topic off at a certain point and either move the messages to a new topic or create a new topic out of the top one. The only way I can think of doing this would be to edit the database using access, you would have to know what you were doing though. It might be worth suggesting this in the MOD section.

Yeah, this would have to be done through a mod. It does not look too complicated, code wise, though it will require some changes to the interface, so that you can specify the new topic subject and the forum where it will go. I will move this to the MOD W/O Code forum, changing the title to something more appropriate.

There was a Mod to do this for some earlier version. Not difficult to do it again though.

Yeah? I don't recall ever hearing about it.

It's much easier to upgrade a MOD than make a new one, where is the old one?

I tried to find in the archives but could not find any reference. The Mod was there, I know because I have it partially installed in my old forum.

I just uploaded them to my server, there were two seperate mods. Both of these mods were by babygate One was a threaded forum mod, and the other was a move reply mod.

Move Reply installed by itself could only move a singe post to a new topic. If the threaded mod was installed supposedly you could move a post to a new topic along with a series of posts. I didn't install the second mod, so I can't attest to it.

Here are the links

Move Reply
Threaded Forum

Hope this helps. Let me know if you update these.

there was a merge topics mod that took all topics from one category and put them under another category, but I don't recall anything like what jfitz is asking for ever being a mod. I'd like to see that one.

One I am talking about is which will split a topic by moving all the replies beginning from a particular reply and put it under a new topic.

That is the MOD that I just posted a link to, but you needed to have the Threaded Forum mod installed as well.

There may have been a seperate mod that did this, but the Move Reply mod did this if you had the Threaded forum mod installed. I asked the author about it last year when I installed just the Move Reply mod.

I'm not in a position to get this installed at the moment (working away from any installs of my forum). Has anyone got both these mods installed? I'd love to see a demo if possible.
