I guess it's going to depend on individual needs here @tomic. I see the dating side as an integral part of the board with the board serving to increase communication and extending the 'getting to know you'. That way there's a better combination between the two. I suspect the profile for the ads section will be more comprehensive and the board part 'as is'.
The way the classifieds has been done is as an add on and I think that works fine, I guess the best way is for you to go at it as you would @tomic, otherwise you'll end up getting a lot of conflicting requests. |

It wasn't easy getting a hold of the author, but I finally did and paid my $US10.00 for the product, with an access & CDONTS backend. I had to e-mail him overnight to get the product sent to me, and that was a week after I paid for it. quote:

I have been wanting to make a MOD for this so long that I am just shocked no one has done it yet. It just seems so obvious.

| I agree that it definately should not be a mandatory thing (to be included in a personals search). I would say that if they fill out the extended "dating" personal information then they should be included. If they choose not to fill that part of the profile out then they could be excluded from the personals search. |

Another thing to consider is that people might want to have a user name that's different from their forum user name. So do you make people create 2 completely different accounts or give them a way of making a user name alias that relates to their primary account? Another idea is to not have double blind email. If you use only Private Messaging with email notification then you force people to log onto your site to get their messages.

I've also been considering this for over a year now, but I wanted someone else to write the base MOD so I can add the functionality I wanted. Afterall, this was 1 of the primary functions I was planning on using at my site and 1 of the primary reasons my site has been stalled for over a year now, but I've been busy with other projects so I don't have time to write the base code.

I think the best way to go is a seperate members table, linked to the original with an additional ID field, it would save space and make it easier to work with everything, every member should also have a "intrested in a relationship right now" and a "registered in dating service" fileds in the respective tables.
And I would love to help in the actual development, but I can't do everything. |
