I would be really interested in seeing a personals type mod as well. I have a site that I would love to put one up on but I'm not about to pay a large sum of $$ for software to do it seeing as I run the site for free (if I was making some sort of profit that would be a different story) and I just don't have the time to write one myself... |

How about adding RTE and picture uploads to classifieds, while you're at it? |

Well, I am am almost done with 3 projects and can devote some time to this within the next couple weeks. I wouldn't expect anything significant too soon if you want to see this done right. It would not be a simple MOD.

Just think of all the features. Hide/Unhide profile, block members, multiple ways of searching for a match, tons of new profile fields, double blind anonymous email, code to filter out members trying to get around the rules like posting their actual email address or URLs. If you can think of more features please post them. You have to know how it's going to work before building it after all.

ok, i think i have a few ideas: More then one photo per profile - there should be a way that a user can have 6 - 8 photo's added to his/her profile
Rating - it would be nice if you could rate a member from 1 - 10 (1 = bad 10 = great)
URLS - i think a URL in the profile is not a bad idea but, it should not be sown till a admin had ok'ed it in some way, make sure it's not a porn link or sumthing.
Search A few things that you could add to the search part are:
Gender - Females - males - any Sexuality Age Country - state (if usa) Keywords - search for words in a profile... Only show users with pictures Only show users online now
only my 2cents

I was thinking of something more complex for search criteria and profiles. Various body attributes(hair, eyes, build, race etc) as well as a bunch of personality options as well.I can imagine more than 50 additional fields but probably in a new table for extended profile options.

I wouldn't like to rate members peewee, the idea of a personals is that it's personal taste.......what basis would you want to rate them? Definitely time limited ads @tomic and deletable by member. I'm going to have a think about features as like you've said there is a lot to think about, poster protection being uppermost. |

I agree that being able to "rate" members wouldn't be a good idea. Not everyone is looking for the same type of person and just because someone doesn't match what you want doesn't mean they deserve a bad rating. |

That depends. Is it a dating service site or a site that also has a dating service. Obviously the latter becomes much more difficult than the former. But think of it like the extended profile. Right now I was thinking of just a dating service version and not dating as an add-on to a regular forum. However, I can imagine that's what people will want(dating as an add-on). So the trick is to figure out how to do that. I figure you would want one profile with a normal display mode for non-daters and for those that want to date would have the normal mode and a dating service mode which would display the correct data depending on what part of the site you're in.

@tomic, it seems like it would be harder to code that way. Why not just have a button on the standard profile indicating that the user has filled out the extended profile and the person can then view the users extended "dating" profile. That way you wouldn't have to worry about what part of the site the user was on, etc.
If someone feels like filling out the extended questions for the "dating" profile they can but if not it just won't show in their standard profile. |

yeah, why dont you try and make it so a user has to agree to having there profile posted in the "dating" part, if they dont agree then it will not show up in the search. That way you could make it so that the users who dont want one can still keep it pretty much like it is now while still having it there for the users who do. |

That is mandatory. It would be useless to have people opted-in to the dating service if they didn't want it. You'd lose members that way as they became more and more irritated.
