I participate on a number of discussion boards using different scripts. I've always liked the look and feel of snitz and am thinking of using it for my own aging discussion board.
However my only hesitation is the consistent slow load time on the 3 Snitz boards I've been on. This happens each time so it's not a function of network traffic on a certain days or time.(other discussion boards are running at normal speed.)
For example on this board it takes 10-15 seconds to view a page with my dial up. (the timer says .5 sec. at bottom of page) Just to compare, boards using other scripts load in 1-2 seconds with my same dial up. Some of the other scripts let you start reading the top posts while the rest is loading instead of waiting until the whole page loads before you see anything so that may be part of the problem.
Is this inherent in snitz or ASP boards? Is speed a function of the number of members and messages?
Maybe for those with high speed connnections this isn't an issue, but I'll be spending so much time on my own board that waiting 10-15 seconds for each page to load will drive me nuts. :-)
Thanks,
Ron

I've found the Snitz boards to be the fastest. I've worked with vBulletin (php) and "asp Portal" (asp) boards and they don't seem as speedy.
I do have a fast connection but some of these open as slow as molassis pouring on a winter's day.
Don't have much more input than that. |

If trees could scream would we be so cavalier to cut them down? We might; if they screamed all the time, and for no good reason... |

3.4 is much faster than the 3.3.x versions, so if those other sites are slow, perhaps getting them to upgrade to the latest version would help. As for you on this site, I think it's a problem with the route that it takes to get to this site, because it never takes more than 1-2 seconds to load this page, even on dialup. |

The latest version is fast, but more than anything it´s a matter of the host - click on my signature link to test my host. |

Yup... it's all about the host's servers and their connections to the internet... you'll find a lot of Snitz users find our script very likeable... but they don't have cash... so they put our product on their slow (free) servers (some are fast but most free ones are not) and you end up s l o w... doesn't matter what board you put on those... it will always be slow.

Hehe, looks like I didn't read the first post as well as I should. Yours 10 to 15 secs to load this page can only be due to your ISP. The pages here load almost as fast as the generated page times shown indicate.
Anyway, the "slownewss" of the Snitz code can be evaluated by the page generation time. After that the extra time it takes for you to received the page depend on the specific server where the page is hosted, and then the time it takes for the info to travel on the Internet to your own computer. So, with pages being generated in less than a sec, Snitz does not look very slow to me, quite the contrary. |

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll guess I'll just have to give it a try on my main website and see what happens.
