Everyone,
Today I received this email after asking the guy who he was and why he had mailed me from my Snitz profile:

Now please everyone if this wasn't obvious already - THIS IS A SCAM!! Do not under any circumstances reply to this guy if he spams you and block him immediately. Huw has locked his account and I have reported him.
This stuff really makes me mad .

Just so you know, this is a very wide-spread scam, not specific to Snitz at all. The details, i.e. country & situation, may vary, but the general theme is the same ... it's a variation of a theme.

I got an email from him the other day that just said, "I have a question" or something like that. I didn't want to reply because then he'd have my email address. I figured if he had a question or needed some assistance that he would have asked me in his original email. Also, I was going to post something here about it but I figured if it was a widespread problem then someone else would mention it (like Kat).
I'm glad you guys took care of it.

I got just a simple email with I need help and nothing else, replyed asking him what he wanted help with and never heard back.
richfed - what was specific to Snitz here was the fact that he was using this forum to send the emails to people by clicking on the send email to user button from peoples profiles.

It is very interesting to see that "manual spam" is getting popular here. I start to think if they did find a way to auto-script it or not.

I suspect it is possible to script it actually, I don't have time to test right now, but I've a hunch you can do it (allbeit with some effort)

True, though I think the benefits of having a few people knock about some "possibilities" is worth it, espceially if it does in fact lead to finding a security leak.
The amount of attention the source code has had since the members.asp incident though I'd have guessed if there was any further issues they would have been identified by now.

I've gotten this SCAM/SPAM message as well. I forwarded all emails with headers to ISP's that I could identify. Of course most of these bogus scams are bouncing off of unprotected email relay servers

That email sounds like the good old "letter from <put name of country here>" and "fax from <put name of country here>" scam gone digital.
At work we get one of those letters every three or four months. I didn't have the patience to read that entire email, but it's usually about a big sum of money that has to be put in a, for them, foreign bank account to be then transferred somewhere else. You will get to keep 10% or something like that. All you have to do is give them total control over you bank account and you can get rich.
Yeah right! But believe it or not, people still fall for it and get tangled up with those criminal organisations.
I'm glad you posted that Kat.
