I made one forum on my testsite so that everyone can enter it, view topics, but only admins can post new topics or reply to the topics. I'm going to use that as a little weblog idea, at least, I might. Now, I've edited forum.asp, topic.asp and post.asp to get it working.
My question is if there's anything else to take into consideration if I change the forum's auth type from "allowed member list (hidden)" to "all visitors". I think I'll have to edit active.asp to make sure there are no "new topic" or "reply" icons for posts in that particular forum, but is there anything else?

I don’t know if this would work, bit if you just hide the icons for new post/new topic etc, would someone still be able to re-create the URL needed to get to the post page without following any links?

It used to be that when creating a forum you could set it so that just Admin could post to that forum in the old version I was using.
Where has this gone?
It seems the only option now is to set the forum to moderatored but that allows moderators to post also which is not what I had before.

If you know the topic name and ID and everything, yes you can go to post.asp without following a link. That's why I had to hide all icons and add a fix for that problem in post.asp. I guess only active.asp has to be fixed now.

Sorry to ask, what's the problem of having it locked?
Ever heard the expression "why do it the easy way if you can do it the hard way"? I don't want to have it locked, and I don't want people to be able to post in it. Simple as that.

By the way, the answer to my question was: edit active.asp and default.asp to remove the "new topic" and "reply to topic" images and their links for that one forum.

Since you're hard editing the code in, why not just lock the forum and then edit the code that displays the locked icons to check for the forum id, and if it's the forum you want then have it replace the icons with the normal ones.
