I have written a new search engine for the forums, initial tests seem to be ok, no timeouts, most searches return in under 5 secs even when returning thousands of results.
If you would like to test it out, you can access it here

Please post any comments/problems in this thread only.

I've tried to use it already.
Two little things I found:
1. Somehow it doesn't allow it to use the back browser button to return to the search page, so that you can reformulate your search.
2. If if click the ... button, to specify the date for posted after field, the top of the calendar is hidden by the posted before field.

That is correct, it is not a web site as such, but a an application that produces html for it's interface, as such things like the back button and refreshing do not function as you would expect, that is why there is a button to do another search

Have already fixed that, will try to upload an update later today

there is a new one now, I hadn't realised it was not using the current version.
I have also enabled the back button, but it may not behave as you expect all the time, since it performs a resynch with the server, so if you are on say page 4 of a result page, pressing the back button may take you to page 1 and not page 3

Just one small request, any chance you could set it up to enable the user to customise the number of results returned per page ? say something like 25, 50, 75 or 100 ?

I know this may sound weird, but I can't seem to be able to get it to work. I'm trying to search for 'background image' in the General Help forum. I can't seem to get any results and i do get a lot, for the last 120 days, with the traditional search.
Can you give me a hand here, guys? Where am I going wrong?

Any reason why ? it currently reurns 40 per page into the scrollable grid, changing this value won't have any effect on the query, it will return 10000 results just as fast as it fetches 10. also, it would not increase the grid size by changinfg the number it displays, the scrollable region is fixed

Simple answer, you selected the wrong forum, the one near the top of the list is the old one, check at the bottom of the list.
I will re-order it and expand the dropdown.
On a side note, this would prove the inaccuracy of the forum search I checked in the db, and there are in fact onlt TWO topics in the help general forum which contain both 'background' and 'image' in the subject

I know its only a test so not sure how important it is but anyway, when i use the (very fast) search, the "Powered by: Flying Mushrooms" and the line thing sit over the results blocking some of the text.
Just a note i use Mozilla which may explain it , as i've just looked and its fine in IE.
