Just got an email this morning saying a new version of Dreamweaver ASP/HTML editor is available called Dreamweaver MX. Its available as a 'pre-release' for download from the Macromedia site (around 50Mb).
So far I must say its quite an improvement over DW4/Ultradev4, I stopped using it as my main IDE for coding a while ago and have just used Visual Studio 6 ever since, but this new Dreamweaver may just change my mind again. It has support for Databases ala Ultradev, some support for C# and .net and lots of other nice little goodies.
If you've got the time to bother downloading the large pre-release (it expires 30 or days after installation also) then I'd really reccomend you take a look at it.
Directlink to the download is http://www.macromedia.com/go/0402176a1ap-a you'll need a macromedia Id to logon and download but thats just a quick matter of filling out a small form etc.

Their two major products that don't seem to be getting MXed are Homesite and Freehand. . .
Too bad. . . I like Homesite.

Maybe they're phasing homesite out ?, when I started up Dreamweaver MX the first time it said do you want to use the New IDE, old Dreamweaver Interface, or Homesite interface.

ahhh. I love this analogy about using Visual Studio for simpler ASP type coding.

I think this refers to the way I use InterDev.

MX also features easy Flash-Fronttending to DB´s and scripting - That really rocks - especially regarding security + dynamics

Lol seahorse :) I think you and me both perhaps.
The beta of MX is defaintely still a bit buggy I've had quite a few problems using it today so I think I'll wait until the full release version comes out, it does look quite promising though. I quite liked the Beta2 of Interdev also, haven't got my hands on the final version of it though to see if they got all the quirks/bugs/'features' from the beta solved though.

It sounds interesting. Maybe I'll take a look. I started with Dreamweaver 1.0, but wound up using the bundled version of Homesite 3.0 much more than I ever used Dreamweaver. I upgraded HomeSite to 4.5 then 5.0 when they came out, but only upgraded Dreamweaver 1.0 to Ultradev 1.0. Even now, I hardly ever touch it.
InterDev definitely has the huge feature set, but lately I've been hoping for something "lighter" than InterDev and a little more feature heavy than HomeSite.

Well I installed it this morning and it's a lot better than dreamweaver 4 and at last I don't have to use the dreamweaver layout; too many windows floating about. And if the price is right I might buy MX. BTW is DW MX replacing UltraDev or is there going to be a MX version of UltraDev?

The only bug I encountered was when I switched on 'Live Data View' it worked for 5 minutes then it crashed. Though I guess the number of bugs you encounter is down to your hardware/software setup.

I think MX is replacing Ultradev, I can't see a single function that was specific to Ultradev that isn't included in the MX Preview release. I suspect they may be replacing the whole dreamweaver line with this one version ... but thats just a guess, could be wrong.
