i omitted an important detail: this is HuwR's modified version, straight from his website. however, i made the (possibly totally wrong) assumption that the initial setup would be identical.

Please post a link to a text version of your config.asp.

I can't see anything wrong with config.asp, although I cannot understand why you need to remove the brackets.

Were the tables created? Can you check it?

yep, they don't ever get created. i don't get that far. if you go to setup.asp (or setup.asp?rc=5), it simply breaks.

huwr? you out there? any ideas?

You need to run setup.asp?RC=5

What do you mean "it breaks"?

hi again,

i was able to fix the problem, actually. at some point during *both* previous attempts at install, i must have made a mistake -- once i wiped it all clean and tried a third time, it works great. i suspect that i either missed a step or did something in the wrong order.

also, for anyone encountering the same problem (the error message in the first post in this thread) when attempting an install of HuwR's version of the forum: you must install the regular snitz forums FIRST. then do HuwR's stuff.

thanks again, all.

Finally! I found a post that has my exact problem.

I have Huw's most recent modified version running in Access. I created a blank SQL database. Created a user with public and db_owner rights and assigned that user to the blank DB. Modified the config.sys (even tried ruirib's other connection string). Changed the dbtype line to sql (verified I commented out the others). Then tried to run the setup.asp?RC=5 and I get the same error that tobycerqua started this thread with.

There has to be an easier way than starting over doesn't there? Huw? I'll check Huw's site to see if he has anything there and if I find anything I'll paste the answer here.

Ok, the answer is there and it does not look as bad as it sounded. I'm going to try it but here are the intructions for Huw's version...
quote:
New Installation SQL db Only:

1) Upload Snitz's latest release to your server & dbs_Huwdbmods.asp (In Zip)

2) Set your connection strings

3) Run Setup.asp?RC=5

4) Run admin_mod_dbsetup.asp & select "Huws Forum DB changes" *You will have some errors when dropping tables since there are none.

5) Verify that the base forum is operating properly, you can now delete these files or leave them in a folder for backup or future use

6) Install all the files located in the Modified forum zip in a folder called "forum".

7) Make sure you set your connect string in the new config file

8) Run Admin_run_config.asp

9) You should now have a working forum!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Everything worked fine up to step 8. I get an error but Huw says that the error is not important and can be ignored. Ok...

So now I have to take my old stuff and put it in here. This is going to take some time but for the benefit of the upgrade from Access to SQL I suppose it's worth it.
