a mod is an abbreviation of modification. the idea behind a mod is to modify some files to get some additional/extra functionality, like for instance adding a file library to the standard snitz code.

Actually crash, I believe mod is from 'module' not modification. Though its a nice coinsidence.

nathan, do you agree when i say that for creating mods you need a bit of imagination? if so, then that's exactly what i used to give my description of the word "MOD"

I agree with Crash about MOD standing for modification.

Modules are (according to my dictionaries) "standard parts used in building" or "part of a spacecraft for independant use" or simply "standard". Most MODs are not parts used in building, they're modifications on the base code.

Ok, I was wrong. But the fact remains that term module is commonly used in the software industry for user-made addons.
