Also it would be nice to get some mod for default subscription to all categories and topics to send users automatically a daily digest of postings and links to messages.

There was a reply to this request:

This would be a very bad idea unless you only have one or two users, sunbscriptions place a very large strain on the servers

I replyed to him:

You must be kidding.

300- 500, even 1 thousand emails generated at midnight and sent as digest (first 20 words and link to complete message on the forum) of day posts is a “very large strain”?

If someone has paid hosting and pays per traffic, do you REALLY think ISP will be disappointed to take his extra $$$ ?

I replied, and believe me, your host will not be happy, when you kill his webserver.

this forum generates between 400 and 500 posts a day, there are 14000 members, that would be 7,000,000 emails.

Most people do not pay for their hosting this way.

Why do you think subscription is currently not working here, it killed the asp mail component and made certain parts of the forum unusable, we have had to remove the code from asp and put it in an external application which runs independantly of the web services, so does not affect it aas badly, but even that still requires some tuning so as not to affect the servers performance.

Plus we don't have the worry of having to pay for extra bandwidth if we use it since the servers are mine, most people would not have that luxury.

Folks, here it some misunderstanding:

1. Number of posts. Snitz is a busy place. Most of users here - are entrepreneurs and programmers. Most are busy posting questions and replays on subject "how to have it working". Big time companies with potentially busy forums will hire pros and will do custom forums. So, I expect, MOST of respected SNITZ installations are small boards lucky to have 100 subscribers and 20 posts per day.
------> Let’s set the number of messages to healthy 50 <-------

2. Number of subscribers - see above.

Let's set it wild to:

------> 300 <------

Here is my vision.

It is 300 hundred outgoing emails with references to 50 postings on the board.

End users are getting ONE email only per day

Pros - Daily remainder of the forum, traffic.
Cons - I personally do not know any.

What do you think?
