Now with ASP.NET, that means nobody is gonna use the normal ASP already? That means I waste money buying the ASP book for nothing.......I bought the book just a month ago.......

There's something I don't understand. What is so good about .NET?

ASP will be around for awhile. ASP.NET is backwards compatible with ASP.

.NET is a new standard. It will take a while before it gets a foothold in servers and junk. You will not be waisting your time learning ASP. Much of your knoledge will be transferable if you choose to go on and learn a little ASP.NET

and the main answer to your question as richard said..

asp will work in the framework of asp.net so as long as asp.net is around, you will still be able to use your asp code.

Think of it as Microsoft Word, you could be using Word 97 and send your file and someone with Word 2000 can still use it, but someone with word 2000 cant send you a file since your on 97 unless they convert it to 97 format.

The answer to your question is yes.

The question from your question is when?

And here we begin guessing :)

I didn't want to think about ASP.NET because I thought I'd learn asp would disappear.

It's refreshing to know asp will always be around.

I was on the HotScripts website and viewed their poll and it said 57 percent (15,000 people)of the voters prefer PHP and 13 percent (3,000) prefer ASP among others. What's up with that?

Because people have decided that since it's from MS, it must a) cost money and b)be evil.

The biggest reason I hear from people for PHP over ASP is it's free. HELLO!!! So is ASP. All you need is PWS or IIS and there you go.

The other reason, which admittedly is true is that for general coding (ie not having to pay attention to good coding practices), PHP does run faster than ASP.

I prefer PHP because I like C syntax better. Not that it really matters.
