HuWR.
You had it running for a year long already? Why hadn't there be a mod for it then???
well at least vBulletin had it built-in, and that's where the idea of having to see "dynamic*" in Snitz (which at current, it does not exist).
you just had to ruin my "good-feeling" day

Yep, that's where I first saw it. I have had it installed since v3.2a6 on my test forum I used to have. I included it for a couple of reasons, first was so that the date/time would change if the Admin change the Time Offset, or changed the Date/Time Format. Second was so that the Font size/color could be changed. And last, since it's an option to have the Edit By show, if you had it on and then turned it off, all posts when you had it on would still show the Edit By section on it. Plus it was part of the forum that I was copying the dynamic signature code from and it just seemed to fit together. |

obviously, my main reason was the time zone mod, it looked pretty stupid having edited times in one format and post times in the other.
Did you use the same field names as I have Richard ?

I seem to recall a pretty big debate about 6 months ago about dynamic signatures in particular, general consensus seemed to be that people didnt want them, the main argument against being that "...my signature in real life doesn't change on all the cheques I wrote out last year just becuase I changed the way I sign my name, so why should it change on all my past posts on a message board when I update it either ?...".
I know theres pleanty of people for and against, so I dont want to bring the debate up again, just offering a little history as to perhaps why it may not have been put into the base code sooner.
Someone has had a MOD available since that debate as well for people that did want the dynamic signatures.

Gremlin,
If I remember correctly, it was I who maade those comments, that is my view of signatures completely. However, having thought about this,we should change the terminolagy used, because it is not really a signature, but rather a 'personal quote' since my signature is what I sign my name as, not some quote from a book or by somebody else.

Well I actually quite like your argument as well I know several others at the time did too.
Yes your right its not really a signature, what it is is just a "closing tag line" i guess.

I have had difficuties on forums in the past when I allowed flash5 in signatures. When the flash file was deleted from the server is was hosted on, or that server was down, all topics with that signature wouldn't load correctly. I finallly reqired all flash siggys to be hosted in the forum directory, but i stil had to go in and edit th **** things out of several threads.
So attaching a siggy to the post is a bad thing if the siggy "goes bad"

Nathan, your example is valid only when you talk about graphic siggies. When it's a text siggy it won't matter.
I still have my "old" siggy (the blue FrutZle logo) on my server just to keep it showing in posts instead of a nice box with a X Making the siggy dynamic won't really solve that problem unless the member leaves the forums and removes the siggy graphic, but then all the Admin has to do is change that members' profile.
Idea: siggies won't be shown for locked members or N/A "members" if they're dynamic. That way locked or deleted members' siggies won't have to be edited... How about when a member is locked or deleted, the siggy field will automagically be emptied?

Yes, I used the same exact field names. That's ok right? |

WOW!! All I can say is, this may make we want to upgrade from 3.1 sr4. These are some large improvements.
(my wish is that it was backward compatable) I know, not possable.
Great job guys and gals!

What about all thost posts with siggies linking to the broken mod resourse, they are only text, but still they are broken

How about including the Upload mod? since the one doesn't work in 3.3 it would be great if it could be a part of 3.4. Maybe it could be turned on/off so people could choose to enable upload if the wanted.
