Why dont you use a WYSIWYG Html editor to the snitz forum?
(the one like hotmail or yahoo rich text editors)

I hate tags.!! I have found a couple of VERY nice visual and PURE JAVASCRIPT Editor and they are FREE.

Here are the link for the editors:
http://www.xoverzero.com/hap/js_editor.cfm

(This is what HotMail(tm) created for it users to compose 'rich text' emails though its web email interface.infact its more than that!)

http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?lngWId=4&txtCodeId=6886

I hope someone out there make this add-on or even as standart for the next release of the forum.

Your "objection" is understandable. But you must understand that for someone who develops in HTML or the like tags are an everyday staple. Just part of your life...

Ok..there are people out there who loves <tags> or who are addicted to it or who doesnt have any other choices !
The WYSIWYG scripts i mentioned above has option to see the "real" text in pure (or ugly) <html> format.. so no worry for tag lovers ! but give US a choice not to see the ugly face of those tags.
WE want a nice rte editor NOW !

It's not in there because most (if not all) of these work only on IE browsers. I don't care about the X number of people that don't have IE argument. The idea is to not exclude anyone, so that's why it's not there. If you want it that badly, use the RTE Mod by Nathan....I don't see it getting added to the base code anytime soon...

Well, I think that Admin should be able to decide wether to use RTE or not - if admin has just one IE-only JavaScript running, then other users are excluded.

But on the other side, I think we are going to see an explosion in users using other browsers due to Linux (particularly Mandrake) and MS policies. - Isnīt there a RTE interface that compatible at all? - Someone should build one.

I would love to see one that worked with netscape or any other non-IE browser. Have yet to see one at all. I'm not even sure it's possible without a server component. The server component WYSIWYG editors totally rock by the way and make these RTEs look silly but they cost some $$$ and you have to find a web host that will allow you to install it.

I'd just like to note that Nathan has made the RTE MOD in such a way that when it's not supported by the browser, they get the default editor. So in a way, nobody is hurt except non-IE users not having all the functions.

I'd also like to say that I don't believe Linux will gain users now that MS has it's activation policy. I've used SuSe7.2 for two days and got rid of it. For people who code a lot it might be nice, but for lazy people like me, MS is still the best of the two. Point & Click oposed to Point, Click, Type, Click, Point etc.

That's pretty much it. Linux will have to become Windows before it's as widely used as Windows. That's a loooong way off.

Me nither, the RTE has the following big problems: opens the HUGE security hole of allowing HTML in the forum, non RTE users cant edit RTE posts, its still rather a rather clumbsy standard that is difficult to use if you are used to "Word" (remember, it has to constrain to HTML)

The RTE is a great experiment, fun to play with, and a good mod. But if it were added to the code it would add instability, confusion, and constraints to the forum itself.

(looking hopeful).

I cant fix the fact that the user end technology is not there yet, or that its a clumbsy editing environment, or that the RTE uses HTML.
