OK,

- members can only vote for a topic once
- members can't vote for their own topics
- topic rating can be turned on or off at the forum level.
- members can decide if they want a topic to be rated or not
- fixed bug for archiving
- rating can be shown by stars or percent. (see readme_topic_rating_stars.txt)

http://www.freeaspcode.net/snitz/details.asp?id=35

I "think" I covered everything.

I will be doing the same for V3.1 but this version is NOT for 3.1 it is for 3.3 (+Huwr) only.

Again if anyone can suggest things to make it look nicer please tell me.

Cheers Az

It's ME again! LOL

Ok...

In inc_functions.asp you have this:

select case( iRating )
case 0
strRatingPict = "topic_rating_0.gif"

but in the zip... You have the image named "topic_ratings_0.gif

You might want to update your zip.

really nice, it's what I've been looking for for a long time. thanks.

what's your idea about archiving the rating itself? do we need to do it on a larger forum or not?

I wonder if it's needed and how / when to do it.

does archived topics go live when someone replies/edits it? or only the mod+ can pull it out? do we support rating on archived topics or not? if we don't, we can archive rating for the archived topics when the topic is archived. if we do support rating A topics, I don't know when it's the time to archive the rating talbe itself then.

One day, I'll produce something Rick proof

Thanks for that Rick,

bjlt,

Someone will no doubt correct this next statement, but I was under the impression "all fields" for a topic that is archived are moved to A_TOPICS (or A_REPLY) by default. So long as the field exists.

In essence that means any topic that was rated will still have a "rating".

I haven't rated Replies (not sure it's really worth the effort to be honest).

Cheers Az

Whilst I'm thinking about it.

Do people prefer the drop down rating, or a popup window for rating?

I can't get the drop down table to look neat, (not that my test site is exactly neat at the moment).

the reason why I want to rate replies:

current snitz count posts (topics + replies)
to start a topic dosen't mean better than give a good reply.
e.g.
topic: how to code xxx
reply:
1. do this
2. do that
3. do this again
4. ....
.....

in such a case the topic is nothing to rate, but the reply.

well, it depends what you take the rating for, for a topic or for the people who posts it.
if you only rate on the topic itself, obviously you are rating on the topic and all the replies together, but if you are rating on a specific person's posts, every posts is diff

people complaints about the current ranking.
what about this:
posts do nothing, post's value = avg rating.
e.g.
posts without rating count 0
so it matters what your posts (including replies) value is rather than the amount of them.

we can also give negtive count for extreme low rated posts.
say if the post's not terrible people won't take time to rate it as 1 or 2, let's make it -0.2, -0.1 for example.

what's your idea?
to rate posts instead of topics.

Couple of corrections made.

Zip file in main topic WILL be amended. (just as soon as I know how to)

Namely,

Correction for blank gif name.

Code moved in post_info.asp

Incorrectly placed code in "URL" rather than "FORUM" section. (old code will work, but it IS wrong)

Additional code added in one section of post.asp to prevent allowing rating in "URL". (old code will work, you can't rate in a URL as it has no topics - but again is IS wrong).

Thanks Az

Hey Azaniah, great MOD. One little thing though. On line 1204 of your post.asp you have
tPostAuth is <% response.write("" & tpostauth & "") %>

The author does not show up for me when I or they Edit a Topic. I take it you are using this query from another MOD you have installed??

I do not have that MOD installed so no author shows up for me so I changed the line in my post.asp to this
tPostAuth is <% response.write("" & getMemberName(strAuthor) & "") %>

Now it does show the author of the Topic.

Just thought I would share this with you

Your right,

This is a line from something else I was testing.

I'll remove it and change the link again. (I had to email Stim, so hopefully he will let us know when the link has been amended).

Thanks Az
