Very good!
Another thing I was thinking 'bout. What if the forums were labeled as
Help: General - Version 3.1 Help: General - Version 3.3 Help: General - Version 4.x
Similiar to the descriptions you have, you could list in the description if it's officially supported or not.
Something that you gain by this is that when you release a new version, then all you have to do is create a new forum. Otherwise once 4.x is current, what happens to all the 3.3 posts inside the current help forum? This would also make it really specific to the version.
Take a look at how vBulletin's Support Forums are setup: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php
They have a category for their new version and then a separate category for version 1.1.
InfoPop - UBB also has separate categories for Version 6 and Version 5 http://ubbforums.infopop.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi
