Using NT Global Groups for Private Forum access!
That’s right. I just finished a test on a intranet using the snits forums and NT global groups for access to the private forums. Works great. Now just need to find a place to put the names of the groups. I was thinking of using the F_UserList. But you might want to use them with the groups. So I was thinking of the F_PASSWORD and making a new F_TYPE (what we up to 9). By using the password we would not have to create a new database field. (Would it be better to create the field or just make the password field bigger to handle the group names?) also do we want just ONE group or more (I was think more)
Also how do we update it. I have to look at the edit forum asp. I need to add a new F_TYPE called “NT Global Groups” and making the password field bigger would be nice. Any help on this would be great.
What do you think?

I'm going to work on the code anyway. I hope when it is completed it will be added.
(Is this the Kal Corp or NT forum?)

What I need is some help from the Snitz groupies !
I need to add a new F_PrivateForums, Should I just select the next #, (I don’t know what is in development and what it might be up to?)
Also should I make the Groups a new Database field or update the password field?

Karl, looks like there aren't many NT users around here, but just wanted to let you know I could set it up on a setcase at home and help you test your code.
Too bad I'm not able to host my own little server as off yet ...... but who knows in da near future eh?

Kal, I like your idea of using NT global group for access to private forum. You have my support. Unfortuantely, i can't help with the code as i'm no good with ASP.<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>

I just updated to speed things up.
I put

In the Config.asp so that it only runs once. It puts the groups into a ver and then in the INC_FUNCTIONS.ASP i check the var with the database. (much faster this way).
Updated the post.asp for the new case name.
I am using the password field in the database. Should i create a new Field<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>
Also it is setup so that you can use more than one NT group. Very nice.

I would like to change the Password prompt to NT Global Groups. if the Privateforum is set to the new case.
Right now i just changed the text to password or NT global group, made the password field bigger.
I'm going to set up one more test forum with NT - this will be open so you can see it

I have the code now @ my test server. also there are some updates i need to add. SOON
I even did more. (different update) All users connecting to the forum will not have to register. UserID(NT account Name) and UserName ( NT account Full Name)
will automaticly be entered.
Now i have two different versions. Everyone get entered into the database and starts as a visitor. member_Level 0, to become a member i has a password in the register. (but it change be changed to anything)
there was alot of code change for this to work. I'll have the hole thing ready for down load soon)
I want to get the mod for NT groups working first.
You can help by going to my test forum 3 comment on the forum. Check out the new NT group type in the forum edit.

Forum 3 is my NT test.
NO NT login prompt hummm..
I dont think you will get a NT logon from across the net. (It does work on my other systems over here, on the same hub). and my main forum is on a intranet with over 300 users and 2K of postings, with this code.
Stay in the forum 1 and goto Download Code

I could logon over the internet.
I got a nice logon popup for username, password and domain, entered the info and got in.
This looks great Kal Corp <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>, great work!. I wish I had more time to test all these mods...

Blah, I got the login pop up but i can't actually log in since don't have an account. I presumes it work <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
also a note about the login popup. In Netscape, you only get the username and password textbox and not the domain textbox. To enter the domain you would just enter:

UserName: domainName/yourUserName
