I wrote a mod for Bobby more than one year ago in response to this post, just never got around to packaging and uploading it. This mod allows administrators to check a box in a member's profile and subsequently receive EMail whenever that member posts. You can toggle the feature on/off in the admin members configuration. |

Wow! Sounds great, Carefree!
I was wondering if it would be possible for this to not be limited to the administers? It would be neat for this to be available for all users as a means of "following" their friends.
It would, of course, still serve the same purpose for administers to monitor certain users as needed.

Updated this on SnitzBitz to also notify about replies.
For Ma: No, I don't want this expanded for all members; it would generate way too much EMail traffic in a busy forum.
Maybe I'll write a configuration option so the forum admin can set limits on it (e.g., forum admin only, all admins, all moderators, all members). That's done. File on SB updated. |

Thank you so much, Carefree!
I've had so much going on for a few months now that it will be later when I get to this. My sister, who had been suffering with colon cancer on and off since 2001, passed away. . . then, more thyroid problems for me and more adjustments to the thyroid medication.
And now, my daughter (who lives almost 2,500 miles away) is going to have to have a knee replacement so I will be leaving in about 10 days to help her through that, and I won't return until December. So, it will most likely be after the 1st of the year when I'll get to this.
Thank you so much for adding this option, Carefree! You're the best!
(Please check your email.)

I'm in the process of fooling with this to keep it in forum instead of emails... Basically to alert a member only if there are new posts on a topic they started. THEN a lil gif will appear in the header that when clicked will take them to a click through listing of replied topics on their posts. Either that or through PM's I haven't gotten very far as yet. Kind if a winter project :) AND it's always possible I can't figure it out but I'm tryin' |

If you get to a stumbling block, let me know and I'll try and help you out. There are a couple of obvious approaches (a header menu item with a link including quantity to a table/page listing replies) or PMs. If you opt to use PMs, you should consider a no-duplication policy (e.g., once someone replies to a topic and you send the PM; don't send another about replies to that topic until the member has read the PM). |

I'm leaning to using the header alert linked to a listing page they can look at or delete at their choice and pace, and leave the emails and pm traffic out of the mix for bandwidth and storage reasons.
So far, all I have is the header gif and the idea. lol The PM VIEW page, however... with the check boxes and check all/remove buttons is the way to go though for the listing page I envision.
It would also be nice (and members have asked repeatedly) for what used to be called a "ping" list in the old forum days to alert certain members of a post and call/personalize them, kind of like the PM capability to name multiple members in the "send to" box with commas.
Anyway...like I said, more of a winter project when I'm stuck indoors but I think it has some merit |

And I must add... QUICKLY quickly getting in over my head so any help would be MUCH appreciated if only to discuss it for awhile... |

Better, IMHO, to either have a dedicated forum for allowed members only or to use the user group mod. Would simplify things quite a bit. |
