Question: Should a mod creator release their mod under a General Public License like Snitz?
Answer: Yes, they have to. Here is an excerp from the GNU General Public License FAQ. quote: The GPL says that the whole combined program has to be released under the GPL. So your module has to be available for use under the GPL.
But you can give additional permission for the use of your code. You can, if you wish, release your program under a license which is more lax than the GPL but compatible with the GPL. The license list page gives a partial list of GPL-compatible licenses.

I don't know what subject this would go under. . . development FAQs?
There is no "Modual making FAQ" forum.

There are a few instances when this is not the case, if you write a mod, say like my filelibrary, or the events calendar, are self contained, and would still work if all references to SNitz data was removed, these types of MOD do not have to be released under the same umbrella as the Sitz code.
Other Mods like my memberfields and your active users, could not function without Snitz, which is why they have to be released under the same conditions.
Here is as good a place as any, but yes, I agree, a basic MOD writers FAQ would be useful, care to volunteer to get one together ? I'm sure ther will be no shortae of ideas put forward, but it should be kept fairly loose and be just a set of guidlines.

I think he meant that maybe something about how the GPL affects the code should included, either there or in a FAQ

I knew that, I was responding to your reply and indicating that that place might be a good place to add something about the GPL for MODS.

I'll take that challenge. The information here http://forum.snitz.com/archive/ is outdated. (For example, no mention of DBS files or how to make them) And it will be more so outdated when internationalization and version control are released.
