Is the included Snitz_forums_2000.mdb a '97 or 2000 database? If a '97, how do we convert it to a 2000 if we don't have Access 2000?

We are able to get the foums working fine with the '97 drivers and str commands but when we try the 2000 str it shows errors. I'd like to install the Poll Mod but believe it will only run with the 2000 database? It wouldn't run properly so I uninstalled it and restored from backup.

if you download the alpha release, you will see there is a compactDB.asp script, this allows you to compact your db, it will in the process convert it to access2000

Thank you HuwR. Where do I find the alpha (or is that sr4) release, why, when I run mod_setup.asp does it not give an option for sr4 and how do I run the compactBD.asp? Once done, I'll try the Poll Mod again.

Whew, I know, I'm full of questions this morning

the alpha release is the 3.2 alpha not the 3.1sr4 version

if you do a search here for compactDB, you will find a topic where someone else wanted to use it.

Thanks again, I found it (admin_compactDB.asp?), downloaded it and ran it. Got this error message:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'

Object required: ''

/inc_footer.asp, line 84

You will need A2K to convert the database to A2K format.

So if I understand you Doug, HuwR's fix won't work?

If the Mods are written for use of an Access 2000 DB, why is the included database a '97? Not a complaint mind you, just curious.

Not quite sure I understand this. Why would you think a mod would be writte for a 2000 database specifically. Unless I am forgetting something, the databases are basically the same. Not a whole lot of functionality (from a SQL-based standpoint at least). If a mod works with 2000, it should work with 2000 unless there are dates in the tables, but all of Snitz dates are stored as strings, so that shouldn't be an issue. Speed is the only real difference....

I don't know about HuwR's script never looked at it. As far as I know, the only way to convert a Access 97 db to Access 2000 format is to use an intalled copy of Access 2000.

Dave, I worded that wrong due to my inexperience. I had read somewhere that when a Mod didn't perform correctly, we had to use the Access 2000 driver and i assumed that also meant we had to have an Access 2000 database. My mistake.

Thank you Doug as well, you cleared that up for me.

With all your help here, I was able to get the Poll mod up and running smoothly. Thank you all.
