Firstly, congratulations for the great work.
Secondly, I got this error, when I click on a link:
quote: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'
No value given for one or more required parameters.

Title: Snitz Links Manager
Hi Allan,
You sould ask if it is realy what they whan to do when reporting a bad link, or maybe adding a comment field. I did try it to test, and it send someting without any verification. The comment fields could be use if, name changed, URL is changed...

blackinwhite, goto my development site www.calvsa.net/snitz/ and tell me if you get the same error there when you click a link. I think it might be a cookie problem and want to make sure.

Hi Philippe, I think no confirmation for these two features are fine as is..the reasoning as follows. For commenting and rating, the user can close the window without rating or commenting at all. And for "reporting bad links", no harm is really done by it, all it does is it turns on a switch which the admin sees when s/he goto "check bad links", hence no confirmation is needed. I few that confirmation is mostly needed when you delete or edit something.

After some testing on my one, I concure with you. When I post the message I did only test it on your site. But a site with many link and users could reduce the Webmaster job, if a user could say no, will he was testing the site.
You should revise some of your files, I saw (don't remember the ones) some: response.write SQL and other "test" value that was still showing.

Yeah it in one of the admin_links pages like step2update. I'll fix that now.

the original app, exebox links manager or frankie's didn't dim their variables so i kinda left it right that. I mainly changed the layout and sql statements.
I'm a big fan of dimming all variables and I usually dim my variables and such. But I can't really just go option explicit on the top of the page because many of the variables on the forum were never dimmed and I would have to dim them all before i can check variables in other stuff, like the links manager before i started work on it.
I even post about dimming in the bug reports found here: http://forum.snitz.com/forum/links.asp?TOPIC_ID=4039

At least regroupping all variable that are already dim, should already help. Ok, this is not very usefull for site that don't receive much user at the same time, but you never know who will use you link.

great mod. it would be cool if i could somehow display the last 3 new entries (or maybee one random "featured link") on the frontpage of someones webpage (something like the slash mod for new topics)

well, there is something like a slash mod add-on thing for links manager that i wrote but it works differently than what you're suggesting. It actually displays the whole categories and subcategories alogn with the links_menu. Kinda like how many site have it.

i managed to copy/paste the necessary code together. looks something like this:
strConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("snitz_forums_2000.mdb")
set my_Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") my_Conn.Open strConnString
strSQL = "SELECT top 1 LINK_ID FROM LINKS ORDER BY LINK_ID DESC" Set rsLink = my_CONN.Execute(strSQL) if not rsLink.eof then intUpperLinkID = rsLink("Link_ID") end if set rsLink = nothing blnRandomLinkExist = false dim rsRandomLink set rsRandomLink = server.CreateObject("adodb.recordset") do While not blnRandomLinkExist Randomize intLinkID = Int((intUpperLinkID + 1) * Rnd) strRandomLinkSQL= "SELECT URL,NAME,DESCRIPTION,LINK_ID,HIT FROM LINKS WHERE LINK_ID = " & intLinkID rsRandomLink.open strRandomLinkSQL, my_Conn if rsRandomLink.eof then blnRandomLinkExist = false else blnRandomLinkExist = true linkid = rsRandomLink("LINK_ID") linkhits = rsRandomLink("HIT") linkurl = rsRandomLink("URL") linkname = rsRandomLink("NAME") linkdescription = rsRandomLink("DESCRIPTION") end if rsRandomLink.Close loop set randomLINKRS = nothing
Response.Write ("<b><a href=forum/links_goto.asp?id=" & linkid & " target=_blank>" & linkname & "</a></b><br><br>" & linkdescription & "<br>(Hits: " & linkhits & ")")
my_Conn.Close SET my_Conn = NOTHING |
