Ok guys, this is my first Snitz Forums 2000 MOD so bear with me. I still rate myself as a ASP newbie so I might have forgotten something / done something wrong etc. But the important this is that this MOD works on my test server.
Well, here we go...
Name: Dynamic Signatures MOD Version: 1.0 Creator: GhorZonia Date: 12th Aug. 2001
This MOD is designed for Snitz Forums 2000 v3.3(.02).
WHAT DOES THIS MOD DO?
Well, the name says it all. With this MOD the signatures are no longer appended to the body of the message, they are now instead included dynamically. This means that if you change your signature in your profile, the new signature will appear in all of your posts in which you have enabled your signature (remember the checkbox in post.asp?).
The dynamical signature will not appear in older posts unless you edit and check the checkbox in them.
Feel free to register at my test server and try it out.

Phew! I'm going to bed.

I had done this mod for myself awhile ago until someone convinced me that a signature on a forum is just like a signature on paper, can't change it . That's not to say it is not a good mod but my members wanted their old signatures retained in their older posts. I even held a poll and overwhelmingly everyone chose the static signatures over dynamic.
Just something to consider, I do not by any means want anyone to think I do not like this mod, like I said, I did it myself awhile back because I thougt it was a good idea...
here is something else you may want to look at as well...

I had been looking for such a mod. It is useful when you have links to your website, in the signature and the link needs to be changed with the change in IP Addres.
This probably can be used for IP links inserted into posts.

Dayve, might be, but dynamic signatures is something I would like to have so that's why I did the MOD
That link seems describe how to do it the really simple way. The problem is that then the insert signature -checkbox hasn't got any function anymore, the signatures are always inserted.
GauravBhabu, thanks for pointing that out. I don't know why the meta refresh tag is there. Well, I took it away. |

I agree with this. I think it's important for links and/or contact information. If it's static and their website address changes or links to a graphical sig changes, then they'll have broken links/images unless they go back and edit all their previous messages.
Also, what if you're new to the board and you make a signature and then two months later there's something embarrassing or lame about your signature that you want to change, then what?
