I have a few members who seem to be annoyed that their postings are copied and re-posted on facebook, the news, in private emails, etc. They have even posted copyright notices in an attempt to protect themselves.
quote: This is a general copyright protection notice to all regarding past, current, and future posts by me.
All Rights Reserved. This post is for the exclusive use for and on the EastonMass.com website and may not be copied, saved, cross-posted to other sites, stored electronically or in paper form, quoted or referred to without the express written consent of the author.
Ia anyone familiar with or have experieice with the copyright and privacy rules of people who post in online forums?
Thanks!

Each forum has their own copyright notice that each registered user agrees to, when they first registered on the forum. That is what should be your guiding principle when dealing with copyright claims.
Most forums state in their copyright, that the information users post on the forum becomes the property of the site and that the users gives the administrators full permission to edit, delete, copy, etc. their posts.
So the forum/site copyright supersedes anything they can claim in their posts, because they already agreed to it when they registered. If they don't agree afterwards, they can simply not use your site. |

I don't see that language in the Snitz Registration Rules and Policies Agreement unless I'm missing it? |

In the Register link in the second paragraph it states:
quote: In order to use these forums, users are required to provide a username, password and e-mail address. Neither the Administrators of these forums, or the Moderators participating, are responsible for the privacy practices of any user. Remember that all information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to share any of your personal information. Any user who finds material posted by another user objectionable is encouraged to contact us via e-mail. We are authorized by you to remove or modify any data submitted by you to these forums for any reason we feel constitutes a violation of our policies, whether stated, implied or not.
That should be what you are looking for.. |

I understand that paragraph is from the registration but not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for the language Davio pointed out but in an actual forum so I can see the whole thing. I still can use the snippet. Thanks for all your help. |

Copyright is worded differently from site to site. You could look online for an official copyright paragraph lingo, but pretty much need to let the user know when they register, what they are agreeing to, when they post on your forums.
In case the matter goes to court, they will use that copyright as the basis of what the user can claim or not claim. |

And not just site to site, you'll see it's framed a little differently depending on the owner's country or a site's "home". |
