What's one of the biggest shortcomings of many db driven applications - including our beloved Forum? Nobody can find the site because for the most part search engines won't index url's with a "?" or "&" in them.

Solution: The Snitzhiem Steamroller!

No, it has nothing to do with Christmas or New Age music. But it will "flatten" your Snitz DB contents to nice, search engine-friendly html .

I was hoping to have more done by this time tonight, but we had company drop by and it pretty much tied up the whole evening.

Anyway, this is in a definite Alpha stage as far as production and as such it's pretty rough around the edges - but I did manage to get a "teaser" version of it up.

DB version:
http://www.cantonweb.com/kerrycode/steamroller/default.asp

Snitzhiemed Version:
http://www.cantonweb.com/kerrycode/steamroller/snitzhiem/default.htm

Notes:

- This does NOT update on the fly. Because it's a CPU hog (it tied up dual 550's to 90% for nearly 30 seconds as it sits), you'll only want to run this manually when you want to update what the search engines can see. Probably even better yet, download your db, run it locally then upload the html files.

-The "topics" aren't Snitzhiemed yet (still asp) and the navigation isn't updated so you'll need to click "back" to stay on the html version.

Mainly, I want to see what kind of interest there is in developing it as an add-on since I have to develop a version for a customer.

Kerry,

Thats ****ed nifty, it would also be very useful for the site I am developing, as appearances in search engines is very useful, especially for forum content that will have QnA's in.

I like, lots.

Kerry,
Did you do any more work on this, if so I would be very interested in how far you got. I am keen to get my forum indexed by the search engines.
Cheers
Dean
