I've been running a small forum for my family for about 7 years. There are just over a dozen members and not likely to be any more.

Recently I've had new unknown members pop up, bypassing the normal requirement for Admin approval. Apparently people are hacking in and adding themselves as members.

What can I do about it? I've never installed any updates since the day I got it up and running in 2003. Would that fix the problem?

I'm not too savvy about how the forum works - I had someone else help me get it set up. Any pitfalls I should watch out for installing updates?

Please help an old newbie out. Thank you very much for any help/advice you can give me.

And thanks a million for this great software that has worked flawlessly for 7 years with virtually no maintenance!!

You haven't updated your forum software since 2003? You're lucky that you haven't had any security problems. My advice would be to immediately update it to the latest software version, now 3.4.07. The download has a readme file with instructions on how to do it, but we will provide help if you need to.
