Hi,
Hoping someone can help.
We use Snitz Forums for a child care website, and we would like parents with very basic IT literacy to be encouraged to join the forum, however a good percentage of the parent body represented will be from deprived community areas and some no doubt will not have an email account to provide when registering. A lot of them will be accessing the site from health centres, libraries, etc. and we don't want to push them into registering for an email account, just to use our forum.
Is there any way these mandatory fields can be removed from the registration form, leaving just username, and password?
We don't want to turn of registration completely, as we've had problems with spam in the past.
Thanks for any help. |

there is a very quick way of turning off email.
in admin options turn off 'Require Unique E-mail' and 'E-mail Validation' then in the registration form make the email input fileds hidden and give them a dummy email address.
If you do this, I would highly recomend adding some kind of captcha/gate keeper mod as you will get hammered by bot registrations without email validation running.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
This sounds like it might work. One question though (and I haven't tried this), does the system not check to see if an email address already exists in the database?
We have gatekeeper installed, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks. |
