As the title says, I have inherited a forum that I now need to maintain. Most of the Admin functions are fairly easy to comprehend, but I am wondering if there are comprehensive to help a new user until I have intelligent specific questions to ask.

Not as such, no. There are help icons () beside pretty much every field in the admin options that, when clicked on, will open a pop up window with a bit of information on what that field is for. Anything that isn't covered there, you can ask here and someone will always be on hand to help you out.
