I wasn't sure whether this would go better in the Access Database forum, or the MySQL database forum since it deals with both, so I put it here

I'm trying to find a new host for my site since my current one is unreliable with the forums. I've found a new host, but they do not support Access databases which my forums currently use... Is there a way that I can convert my Access database to a MySQL database (which the new host supports) without losing the forum's data?

Well, hosts sometimes say they don't support Access, but chances are their software does and either the sales department doesn't know this or they have been told not to promote it.

I was with a host that said the same thing about Access, but I did a test of my own and found that Access indeed was supported. Instead of lugging all of your forum files and database over for a test, try testing it out with a new install of Snitz just to see if it works then decide from there what to do next.

On the conversion, do a "Search by Member" here at Snitz for posts by Rui or AnonJr. I think I remember somewhere that they helped on that, and I also think I remember, I think, it was MarcelG that did an Access conversion not too long ago, so do a "Search by Member" using his name as well.

If your host does not provide Access support that means the servers they use are running a non Windows OS. That will make those servers not the most adequate to run Snitz. I would either find a new host or switch the forum package.

If you decide to convert anyway, have a look at the stickies in the MySQL forum; one of them'll cover what you need to do. Be very careful to read the entire topic and follow the steps posted eaxactly. And, of course, be sure to have a backup you can roll back to if things do go awry.

Ok, thanks! I don't think that the new host I was considering has a Windows OS, I think they have a Linux, so I won't go with them, lol.
