I want to set the subscription level for categories and groups and have looked at the tutorial but it seems to be different to the current version. When I click what is supposed to be "edit category" it says "edit category name" . When I click that the only thing I can do is edit the name. I don't the 3 boxes as shown in the tutorial. I have set the highest level to "subscribe to whole board" as instructed.
Just to confirm what I want to do. I want to be notified if anyone posts anything to any of the forums and I want users to be able to subsribe to topic
Based on your other topic, I'd say you probably need to get your e-mail server configuration taken care of first. Then work through the subscriptions tutorial again.
As an aside, I'd keep the number of forums with subscriptions to a minimum - too many subscriptions with too much traffic will slow the site down. Its more of a mail thing, and largely out of our control. I would recommend looking at one of the RSS MODs floating around here and create an RSS feed instead.
I have been through the tutorial 3 times now and really can't see where I am going wrong. There seems to be only 2 steps in the tutorial. The first to select the highest level to "subscribe to whole board" which I have definately done (see url below) and the second to click on the little pencil where the category name appears. That's the problem. On the tutorial, when you hover over the pencil it says "edit category details" but on mine it just says "edit category name". If I click the pencil I only get 1 box which is the category name. I have uploaded a snapshot of my settings here
Not sure what's going on then... I went through on a clean install and recreated using the settings you posted, and I see the two boxes. (the third one in the tutorial is related to moderation, which you have turned off)
Are these two topics the only setting changes that don't seem to stick?
Also, have you installed any MODs or made any changes to the code beyond editing config.asp to get things started? (Just trying to eliminate possibilities)
I was getting some very strange behaviour so I deleted everything and started again only this time I set the subscriptions level and changed all the setting before creating any categories or forums and everything now seems to be ok.
I was also getting another problem that when a new user clicked the email validation link they were being directed to the admin logon page. I didn't anything unusual with the first installation so I can't image why it was behaving so strangely but all is ok now.
