I have a weird problem. I host two forums and one of them allows me to embed images like this:

but the other just shows a tiny little "image" icon without showing the image itself. Both forums are configured the same way, with "allow image embedding" turned on (naturally, or the (img) code wouldn't be available).
Anyone have any ideas what's wrong? I mean, both forums do show images (like the header images and other embedded things). Here's a link to the forum that doesn't work:

It must be your computer. I tested it (without ever registering) and it worked just fine in the preview.< |

Sorry, I think my example was probably screwed up:
This is my thread where I tried this:
http://www.kelleytown.com/forum/flretire/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2988&whichpage=2
So I'm guessing the first image I tried to embed didn't have the correct permissions to link to -- that's got to be the explanation, because obviously it does work with my second image attempt. Sorry for bothering people here.< |

Thanks, Podge.
On that topic (and I'll generate a new one if anyone here thinks it would be more appropriate) is there anyway we can allow people to embed videos without enabling HTML?
In this day and age it would sure be nice if folks could share such links in their posts, but when I look at Vimeo all I see is the HTML to copy and paste. Now, this works great in a blog, but if we turn off HTML (which is recommended) is there any mod which would allow me to offer video embedding?
If not -- what do you guys think about me turning HTML back on? I monitor the forum very carefully (all people have to be approved by me separately) so we have ZERO spammers who get on, but obviously it still can happen from time to time (if I get fooled by someone -- right now I have folks email me privately).< |

Thanks, Podge, but I can't see how that will help for videos from Vimeo.
It looks like it works for other types which have some sort of link to the actual video, but since Vimeo's stuff is other directed I just can't see how anything other than HTML access will do. Even knowing how dangerous it is, I guess I'll have to take the chance (one of the good news/bad news things is that for years I actually HAD HTML access enabled by mistake. Never had an issue and finally turned it off, but I suspect since I don't have any members I haven't personally shared email with that it won't be a problem).< |

Um, yeah. And I suppose if I wanted to code a forum myself I could do that as well, but I just don't have that kind of skill set.
Plus it doesn't look as if even if such support was coded that anyone other than a programmer (or at least NOT a senior citizen, as are the folks that use my forum) could actually embed such a video. I'm looking at the instructions here:
http://oxle.com/topic.asp?tid=4205
and they are far from straightforward. Yes, I can indeed figure out how to cut and paste from some of those video sites, but the people who frequent my forum have enough trouble trying to get images to show up. It would be an awful lot to ask them to do these things.
So... I'm still thinking HTML is the way to go. Given that I can trust everyone about the only thing I have to worry about is them making a mistake of some sort. But embedded HTML in a message shouldn't be able to crash the entire site, right? I mean, I understand how someone malicious could so something bad, but someone simply making a mistake shouldn't do anything more than disable that thread, right? How bad could allowing HTML be?< |

Oh... f@#$.
I can't enable HTML without turning off image embedding.
So now I'm caught between making it easy for my seniors to embed their own images (using the img codes) or their own videos (using HTML). Rats.
Anyone got a mod to allow both?< |
