Hi and thanks for this forum which will hopefully solve our problem.

We are using Snitz as our forum.

My fellow admin is away at the moment and he didn't have the solution before he left so I am trying to find out what has happened.

We have a very important poll at the moment which the majority of our members have found very simple to use.

But there are many that now say they cannot vote.

They are shown the current standings in the poll but no option to vote.

I have logged in myself as one of them and it doesn't give the option from my PC either so I guess it is not a cookie type problem.

I have checked if they have already voted and they definitely have not even tho the poll is acting as though they have.

I have also logged on as someone who has not voted but IS given the option to so it is not something on my PC.

Is there any obvious reason why some do have the option to vote and some don't???

Thanks in advance.

Sorry about that double post stuff.

I was checking to see if I had a reply and thought I must have accidentally posted it in the wrong section as I didn't remember posting under this MOD thing.

So I typed in the correct section I meant to post in...

... not realising you had moved it here!! <

Can I get a link to your forum so I can see the problem?

What settings have you applied on this particular poll? I.e. Is it a members only poll or a anyone can vote poll?
Did you say some members voted and some can't? Or is it that no one can vote?

From what I remember, there are only a couple of places to look: "topic.asp" (for the function call) and "inc_func_common.asp" (for the function itself). Please post links to these two files in .txt format for us to see.<

Only members can visit our site and we have tried it with 'members only' vote and non-members too.

Some 'members' for some reason cannot vote where others can.

Thanks for responding.<

Well, I need to test what you are experiencing Rich, so you can send me an email with a test account (if you don't want to post it publicly) and direct me to a poll in particular that you are having trouble.

I ask about the settings, because a anyone-can-vote poll means, the votes are saved in a cookie on the persons computer and also in the database if they are logged in.
A members only poll, the votes are stored in the database.

If I know which particular poll you are having trouble voting with, and which members that are unable to vote, I can narrow down the problem.<

Hi Davio.

Sorry I had assumed you would just join our site.

I have emailed you a username and password to use.

The poll is one that should appear above the forum to anyone who has not yet voted.

But some who have not voted do not get the option and when they visit the poll, they see the results instead of the option to vote.

Our members have told us they have cleared cookies and I have tried 2 different accounts on my computer. One was given the option to vote, one was not. Neither had already voted.

The poll is set up as a 'member only' vote although it makes little difference as non-members cannot view the site. We have tried changing the poll to 'anyone can vote' anyway, but it made no difference.

Thanks again for your help.<

Ok, I'll get back to you on it, in 4 hours. (gotta run to church)

But check for me, if you have the option to allow members to view results before they vote. If you have that checked, then if they view the results first, then they won't be able to vote afterwords.<

Yes we do have "Allow Users to View Poll Results Before Voting" checked.

If this is the problem, then surely this should read "Allow Users to View Poll Results Without Voting"??? <

Perhaps "Allow Users to View Poll Results Instead of Voting"?<

Or that yes.

But the original line doesn't make sense if they can't vote.<

I have now been informed that this was only recently changed to include the checkmark in case that was the problem.

So the problem was there when the option was unchecked. <

Sorry Rich, I erred in my previous post. I meant to say that if you have the option "Allow users to view poll results before voting" checked then they would be able to view the results and vote afterwards.

If it isn't checked, then once they view the poll they won't be able to vote afterwards. There is a warning below the poll button that appears to let members know that clicking the view results button would forfeit their vote in the poll.

But now Rich, I have no clue what the problem is. You guys have turned on and off various options to try fix it, that it makes it even harder to figure out what the problem is.

It would be easier to start a new test poll, with the original options you had set for your problematic poll and tell me the issues you are having. Because changing the poll options back and forth after a poll has been made and votes already submitted, would cause some confusion with persons trying to vote.<

""If it isn't checked, then once they view the poll they won't be able to vote afterwards. There is a warning below the poll button that appears to let members know that clicking the view results button would forfeit their vote in the poll.""

That would make more sense. As we had the option off to start with then it seems they have forfeited their chance to vote.

We will have to find a way for them to re-vote.

Thanks for your help.<

You could always post a link to a txt version of your inc_func_common.asp and your topic.asp and I'll see if your poll mod code looks ok.<

Are these people who are voting on the same IP? Wasn't that an issue once upon a time only 1 vote per IP?<
