The past few days I have been having some major issues with my forums. I have had the forums up and running for over 2 years now and have never really had any problems.
http://www.cooperriverbassmasters.com/forums/default.asp
Over the last few days the site has just been locking up. I can get to the main web site, www.cooperriverbassmasters.com, but when I go to the forums link above, the site just locks up. I have looked in the directory where the Access Database is at and I see that everytime it locks up the Access Locking file (.ldb) is sitting there and it cannot be deleted. I reboot the server and then everything is fine from anywhere between 3-12 hours and then all the sudden it locks back up again and I have to reboot there server again.
I shut the web site down this past saturday and pulled the database over to my other machine and ran a compact/repair on the database in hopes that this would fix the problem, but it has still been doing the same thing, twice yesterday and again about an hour ago.
Server Operating System: Windows Server 2003 R2
And help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.< |

Some quick questions (in no particular order):
- How long has it been since you last archived it? - What version of the forum are you running? - Have you added any MODs? - How much traffic are you getting?
There's a few more, but I gotta run to my next meeting...< |

- Just Archived it last night. (Anything older than 4 months, hoped that would fix it, but it locked up again this morning).
- Forum Version 3.4.05 (Security Updates have been added.)
- Have added several MOD (PM's, Calendar, Smiles), but have not added anything to it in about 8-12 months.
- The most users on at one time is usually 7-10 with probably 20-40 posts a day if that much.
I have not made any changes/MODs to the Forums in a long, long time. This just seemed to come up out of no where.< |

Your forum works perfectly from here. The problem may lie in your own computer ....< |

Thats the problem, it works fine for a while then the database seems to just lock up.
Going to move the database over to another drive this evening and see if that might help.
Like I said every other site on my server is running fine, the only part that stops working is the forums. And the .ldb file is just sitting out there and it does not work again until I reboot the server.
I run the server out of my house, so I have full access to anything on it I need.< |

I wonder if there's a lot of PM-related access going on. Off the top of my head its what jumps out since you seem to have the archiving well in hand.
In the end its likely that an upgrade to SQL Server or MySQL will help.< |

I'm getting the following error now, first time I have seen it...
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0115' Unexpected error
/forums/default.asp
A trappable error (C0000005) occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running. < |

If problems continue post the connection string you're using. Or if you're not, try using the Jet OLEDB provider in your connection. The older ODBC drivers are more, shall we say, "sensitive".

Well it finally locked up to the point of no return yesterday. I finally just reloaded another server and it's all back up and running now.
The problem was so bad that the backup I had for the database yesterday afteroon, was telling me that I could not open it even with Access on another machine, because someone else was all ready using the database.
Glad I had a backup of the database from the night before, so I only lost about 12 hours of posts which was not to bad.

My forum has also been working fine the last two years but I am experiencing the same problem. The problem started yesterday. My version of Snitz is 3.4.06.
The error message reads: ------------------------ Active Server Pages error \'ASP 0113\' Script timed out
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded.

Are you on a shared hosting package or do you have your own server/VPS? If you're on a shared package it could be someone else's code is causing problems. I had some really odd issues with Access on a project at work only to find later that someone else's website was creating issues with the JET engine.
As I said before, in the end an upgrade to SQL Server or MySQL will help.< |
