Since some weeks/months, I have a cookie problem with my 2 boards, I've contacted my server but they have no idea what the problem is.

I cannot login into Admin Options, sometimes it works, most of the time not, if it works and I do a change most of the time it won't stick and log mit out again of Admin Options. Same with the Active Topics page. I go to the board, and it says e. g. "50 new active topics", I click on it and then appears: "There are no new topics since your last login"... I've set the cookies to Website, didn't change anything, all other users of my board have the same problem.

I've searched thourgh this board about cookies issues, I've found something about "sessions settings", I've asked my server, they said the server I use supports sessions but they have no idea where they should look for the error. So has anyone any idea what exactly they have to change in the settings on the virtual server that my boards are working again?<

Yes, it does seem a server problem. It's hard to figure what may be occurring, but probably having a look at the forums can help. Please post a link to your forum(s) and provide details for a test account.<

I am having the exact same problem for the past 5 days! In addition to the active topics problem, I am being logged out of my admin page roughly after 15 seconds! Any ideas on what may be the problem??<

it could be a browser issue, check the cookie settings in your browser and make sure it is set to allways accept session cookies.

in IE
Tools|Internet Options select privacy tab, press the advanced button and make sure allways allow session cookies is selected.

if you are being logged out after a specific length of time then that may be how long session cookies are set to on your server, check with your host<

Thank you for your reply. Its probably the session cookie on the server. I hope they'll know what I am referring to! :o)<

I got the following reply from my server support:

"Are you sure that the forum is using cookies? If so, there's nothing we can do from serverside. If instead, the forum is using the ASP timeout session, we can modify it for you."

Anyone make any sense of this?<

The forum uses both - you'll need to find out how long the session timeout is. If its too short it can cause the problems you have described.<

yes, it kinda means your host has no idea what they are doing, just about every website not just forums use cookies, so a statement like "Are you sure that the forum is using cookies?" are slightly worrying.

Ask your host what the timeout?

however I would look for a host who actually understands how websites work <

I have the same problem. And don't know what to do. Last four weeks all user have had this problem on all browsers(that i know). When I get to the forum there is maybe 30 new topic since last vistit, but after 1 min there is none.
And to work in admin-section is allmost impossible. I'm loged out after no time. The logout time is not the same, but always short.

Here is last visit times when I tried make a log in a ten minutes period. 12:22:34, 12:22:54, 12:23:57, 12:24:53, 12:25:57, 12:27:32, 12:29:04, 12:29:59, 12:31:40.

The server has a session time of 20 minutes. They say.
My host also think the problem is the amount of visitors. But its hard to understand because this problem is both day and night and happened suddenly. We have had a lot of vistors for a long time.

I also checked for "allways accept session cookies" in IE as HuwR described above, but it didn't help.

It's definitely a server issue. Your host needs to fix it for you. Unfortunately, I don't think we can do much, from the Snitz side of things.
Not sure whether the 46 users online as I post is what the host considers "many" visitors, but that really isn't much!
