I have developed a WYSIWYG HTML Message Editor implemented using DHTML and scriptlet technolgies.

I am about to release the code under the LGPL license as a project on sourceforge.net (project name RichText http://sourceforge.net/projects/richtext/).

The current implementation (the one we use internally) includes a smiley button and copies of the smiley icons from Snitz forums.

My question is this:

Can I have permission to use these icons as part of this project?

What's in it for you? Well, as the project will be released under the LGPL license, this means that it can now be incorperated/integrated into Snitz forums.

We (Ramesys) will be retaining a copy of the source prior to making it LGPL which we could release using an alternative license if the LGPL license is not suitable (e.g. perhaps a version released under the Snitz license) although this will mean different and potentially incompatable versions of the component.

The current implementation has a few issues (it does not support forum code, only HTML) and is not yet integrated into snitz (more bolted onto the side with a big rusty coach bolt - well grey button) but the text editing side of it is pretty much all there and working.

I could arrange for an online demo of the editor once I have all the necessary copyright notices and license agreements in place.

Can you confirm that their emails in their user profiles are correct.

I emailed "gor" several days ago and have had no response - I accept he may be busy.

Cheers

How are we going with approval for use of the smiley images Gor/Mike?

I've been busy too, hence the long delay between replies, so I can sympothise.

I plan to add "plug-in" support, and then make the smiley insertion button a plugin, but would like to include this as part of the editor.

I have not integrated it into Snitz very well, more grafted it onto the side (with lots of virtual selotape). This is because to do it properly, I think a alot of work will be required in post.asp and I am not that brave yet.

Here are some screen shots of our current implementation:-

Fig 1: Rich Editor bolted on to forums. Notice the Rich Edit button next to the text box in the forum editor.

The source code is available for download form the sourceforge.net as mentioned in the origional post.

I emailed you some time ago, but as it seems that didn't get to you, I'll post a reply here .

The smilie set you ask about is strictly for use with Snitz(tm) products. So we can't authorize their use on a non-Snitz(tm) product. However, if you wanted to release your product under Snitz(tm) then we would be able to use them in the product in question.

You would of course retain all credit in code and visibly for everything you have done, the only difference would be the name (which is owned by Snitz Communications), which then could be marketed and made available via Snitz(tm).

Let me know what you want to do.

Cheers! :)

The api.js.asp line can simply be removed, this is an oversight on my part, the api.js.asp script provides some integration features with our intranet.

Try downloading the source from richtext.sourceforge.net, these should be OK

The images missing are the smilies from these forums, which is what this topic was all about. It appears that I wont get permission to use these as part of this project unless I can do some kind of deal, or source some alternative images.

Has any more been done on this issue? The rich edit program works great!

Ross.
