lavinp: I got an email from someone complaining that "Zimbabwe (Rhodesia)" (in the country list - Snitz forum) is causing offence. The official name of the country is Zimbabwe. Just thought you might like to know.

lavinp: I just checked it an Snitz, its still Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) not just Zimbabwe. Its the reference to Rhodesia that is causing the offence.

lavinp: Rhodesia doesn't exist anymore and it represents a period in their history when aparthied was at its worst (so I have been told)

The reason I chose Jordan for my country is that I was born there. But I'm originally from Palestine (occupied by Isreal) and I didn't see it listed in the country list. Palestine is a recognized entity by all the united nation an 200 other countries (except for USA and it's sister UK for abovious reasons to do with the Isreali government support..long disbuted discussion). The core of the middle east conflict. Palestine is been a country for thousands of years. heck all three major religions were generated there. To make the long story short I really would love to see a country with over six million people and one of the most educated too, to be listed in the country drop box. Thanks. Peace and God bless

I think that UN must be the only reference. I searched for a "current" country list in the UN site several months ago with no success. Does anyone know a reliable source?

Adding my country to the snitz forum has to go thru some diplomatic means and political bureaucracies I guess. sending my embassador to Minnisota and Amesterdam to discuss the issue with Snitz heads of state will be the next move on my agenda.

Your made a very good point with your response. And that is that we need something "official" to base our list on. Something that we can use as a quick reference for changes. Without having to go into political debates about "is this a recognised country or not".
The suggestion of bozden to use the UN list wasn't a bad one (I think). Palistine wasn't on that list as far as I know btw. If the list Doug is referring to also is one that is maintained and can be considered "official" I don't think Mike has problems to use that one (I don't in that case).
So that would save you a few trips around the world.

I would say if it's on either of those lists, or is not on one of those lists, we can make a judgment call ourselves with no obligations to anyone.
The list I put up there is out of the UN's .pdf file they give on their site. Adding the: PALESTINIAN TERRITORY, OCCUPIED
is on the other list, so we'll add it :)

gor, I didn't know that snitzers have to go thru a list check up and official autherization to state where they're from. All I care if someone said they're from mars and mars let it be. Why I have to be subjected to a list to verify my claim? I think by now every soul in the universe heard about Palestine (I sure read something about it in the Bible). Prior to 1948 (Israel Decleration of Statehood) my parents were born in something called Palestine not in an occupied Palestinian territories. I'm sure if I could convince you of the validity of my claim that will be practically solving the MidEast crisis. Peace

Well, since Mike solved this matter in a intuitive and intellectual way there is no need to go into that.
On a personal note:
You might want to try rereading yours and others posts before you post things.
I was only trying to avoid making matters as complex as you keep making them. We're talking about a list that clearly gets people very excited. If we had a member from Israel reading this topic, he/she would probably be saying exactly the oposite from what you say.
But that is not the point !
1) On your own site, you just add what you like, nobody cares, if you want to add Mars, go ahead (there I go again).
2) We (Mike, myself with input from you guys) have to decide what to put in the source-code and the forum here. I was suggesting to just take something neutral to avoid getting into a political discussion here. And I don't think Mars is going to be on that list.
3) Were do you think the list Mike used comes from ? You think he made them all up ?
4) This isn't about who is more right than the other.
