How would I through the forum or ASP code backup and delete the archive of a forum using a MS Access db. I would like the ability to easily restore the archive if necessary.

if you delete it then there is no way of restoring it.

What is the reason for wanting to delete the archive once it's made? If you're doing this for speed reasons, archiving will help with that without the need to delete anything from your database.

The forum has been almost unused for about a year and I figured I would clean it out. Some older users may want the older topic back so I would like for the ability to restore a topic.

I would just archive all the topics in the forum. That way, you don't have to worry about those old topics showing up when users view the forum(s) in question. However, anybody who wants to look at old topics simply needs to click the archived posts icon to see them.

The built in archiving function sounds to me like it will do exactly what you're wanting, with the exception of restoring an archived topic. And I'm pretty sure there's a MOD floating around for that.
