Microsoft are launching VS2008, Sql Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 shortly worldwide. Anyone going to any of the launches ? I've registered for free today for the one in Dublin.

And you will leave with a promotional kit that includes versions of the Windows Server(R) 2008 operating system, Microsoft(R) SQL Server(R) 2008, and Microsoft Visual Studio(R) 2008.
I hear that these are the versions being given away.

· Vista Ultimate Edition with SP1 + subscription to OneCare.
· Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition.
· SQL Server 2008 CTP 5.0 plus a voucher for the full release of SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition when available later in the year.
· Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (64 + 32bit) for internal testing & evaluation only.

You know, I have never been to one of these, but I could actually see this as being a possibility. I just need to talk my boss into sending me to the one in Kansas City in March. As much as I like to rag on Microsoft, I use their products pretty heavily and have always been interested in going to a launch event (if for no other reason than the swag ).

Nuts to that; get them to send you to the one in Dublin!

Which one did you register for, Podge?

Holy crap, I'd love that. However, I think I am going to have a hard enough time getting them to pay me while I am just 45 minutes away. Something tells me I wouldn't be able to convince them to fly me halfway around the world. However, as soon as there is a Snitz conference, I am all over it!

Highly doubtful; time is at a premium these days - might be able to swing the evening one if anything.

I only work about 10 minutes away in Kildare St. so I should be able to make it during lunch.

I'm ex-MS, the product launches are important events culturally, you can't rely on freebies, but for the last visual studio launch, they gave away shrinkwraps of top-line products. MS LOVE developers, they know we drive the product choices, and want to woo you! Let them - and time at a launch event is never wasted - expect 25-30% pure marketing, the rest will be useful product demos, etc. Take the time off work, or convince your company to allow you to go - it is totally worth the experience :-)

There will be events worldwide. Is Redmond/Seattle a big stretch from where you are? There'll be plenty there!

I've asked my boss to send me to the one in Kansas City. Whether he approves it as company time or a personal day, I'll be there!

I should have added the sarcasm tags... I'm just now getting them to let me "pilot" using SQL Server 2005 and Windows Server 2003. We've still got a lot of Win2K clients out there too. I'm not likely to go even if it was on the other side of town... it would be more social than useful. (Redmond/Seattle is on the other side of the continent too...)

The real problem is that some bean counter thought that the Enterprise agreement we had was "too expensive" and that it would be "cheaper to upgrade as we go along".... but I digress.

I really have to fight to go to any conference that costs money, so if I'm going to go I want to make it worth my while.
