We have just upgraded our old forum to the new Snitz version. But I am getting confused between categories, groups and default categories.

What we would like to do is tidy up all the old topics into themes. Can anyone suggest how I can do this please?
Many thanks

With Snitz, topics belong to forums. A forum is the best approximation to a theme that you have. With Snitz you have:

Categories -> containing Forums -> containing Topics.

Groups are just ways to manage categories. If you are confused by them, just set Group Categories to Off, in Admin Options->Feature Configuration.

Thank you - I have tried that and I think it will help.
Will I be able to move topics to newly created categories?
Thanks

You can move a topic to a new forum, so you can add forums to your newly created categories and then edit the topics and choose one of those forums as destination.

Once again many thanks!
I've set up a new forum within our default categories but do not know how to move the topics.
Best wishes

Edit the topic by using the icon above the topic text. Then just pick a new forum fromthe Forum dropdown.
