I have email validation turned on and once I forget to check pending registrations to delete spammers for a couple of months and there were a lot of them. The number of spammers not validating is increasing these days.
I have friend who failed to return for some time to delete unvalidated registration attempts and the number exceeded a certain limit and his forum froze up and, probably due to software mismanagement, was totally trashed and lost.
My question, one of them, is this: How many unvalidated registrants will my snitz forum hold before it exceeds a software limit and freezes up.
Second question. I'm assuming that these spam machines are finding my forum via search engines like google, is that correct? If so I might make the forum viewable by members only.
More questions about restricted registration. I'm thinking of starting up the restrict registration option and would like to know how this works. I'm assuming this comes in the form of an email to me and so all spam bots will fail to attempt registration, is that correct? Do registration requests appear somewhere in the forum admin section or do they come to me in an email?
....and lastly, what is the text that is presented to the potential 'restrict registration' applicant when they click register. Where can I see a copy of that?
Thanks.

first question. there is no limit
second question: easiest solution without making it members only is to look for the "Gate Keeper" Mod
restrict registration means nobody can register on your forum. |

Thanks, it is nice to know that there is no limit, but your answer about restrict registration disagrees with the statement in the admin section of my forum, which says:
quote: Restrict Registration? This allows you to choose who is able to register on your forum by approving or rejecting their registration.
Note: You must have the E-mail Validation option turned On to use this feature.
I'm guessing we are using different definitions or restrict.
I'll just turn that restriction on and try to register for my own forum and see what happens.
I will look into this gate keeper mod and do a search for it, thanks. |

ok, misunderstood question restrict registration means that when someone registers they get put in a pending list which the admin then has to approve, once the amin approves the registration they then get sent the email with the valdation link in it.
if after 2-3 days the registration still appears in the pending list, it is reasonably safe to assume that they did not get the email so you can then delete that registration (from the pending screen) it is still won't stop all spam bots, hence the reason I mentioned the Gate keeper Mod (look fo any posts by Podge, there is a link to it in his Sig) |

There's a few other options (as well as a link to the Gate Keeper MOD) over here: [link] |

I have recently installed the Gate Keeper MOD, I really can't beleive it but the forum still works. Is there any way to test if the Gate Keeper mod is actually working?
